'06 Hemi Oil Filter Access on a 1500 4x4
boy does this remind me of a lesson well learned. when i was kid i would take care of the family cars. being so young it was a huge responsability, so i would double check double secure everything. well, i was ready to put everything back on my moms toyota van and i gave the oil filter a full extra turn thinking i did a good job. come next oil change i tried everything to get that sucker off. it was a tight spot, so clamp type oil wrenches were out of the question and cup wrenches would just cam off!!!!i ended up driving a 1/2" by 6" long lag bolt right through the filter so i would have something to grab onto. i used awrench as a lever and"hooked" the head of the bolt with the box end ofthe wrench and forced the wrench against the filter to get it turning. it finally came off and it was the damned ugliest beat up filter you ever saw. my rule of thumb after that was screw it on untill the filter bottoms out on the gasket and is snug then give itjust overa quarter turn more.oh yeah, anddon't forget to oil the gasket. that was some years ago and wouldn't ya know that nowadays some filters actually have those instructions printed right on them!!
idk about you 2x guys, but us 4x guys (1500's) have that axle tube and steering rack in the way. when i go to draw the filter i always get oil on my arm or drips on the driveway. i started using a small container to catch the oil as i unscrewed the filter, but eventually that becomes a pita too. i cam across this thing in one of my mags and i immediately ordered one. i have yet to try it, so i'm excited about my next oil change. you guys may like it too.

Try using a 2 or 3 liter clear water or soda bottle.
It's the one that;s just round enough to slip over the oil filter.
Cut it down in length so that it will slip over the oil filter with the screw end down and a little extra on top.
Use your new filter as a guide if it's the same as your old one.
Loosen the filter first.
Slip the empty soda bottle over it and continue to loosen the filter.
All the old oil goes into the empty soda bottle and you can pull the filter down and away from that power steering rack with no problems and more importantly, no oil spilt over the rubber gater etc.
Hope this help?
