Default Swapping Engines.....

How hard would it really be to swap engines?? I know, id have to get a new tranny, engine mounts, etc etc. but will i have to actually modify the engine compartment or the body of the truck at all. I'm not really an expert at this so any help is welcome.

Nope. You will have to have the aproprate ECU, but no body mods are needed. Also, You might need a larger radiator. What year model is your truck, and what engine have you found to put in it?

Its a 2005, and i havent found a motor yet, buy if i find a good deal on something i might get it. but my buddy told me that he and his friend put a HEMI into a v6 but they had to cut out the wheel wells or something.

now could i put anything in there or would it have to be a dodge motor (4.7, 5.7, etc.)??

You could put about anything in there if you have the patience. A Chevy 350 V8 would be good and on the cheap. Go diesel if your really daring!

Wow diesel!!! i never thought of that. wouldnt then engine be huge though, and a tight fit in the engine compartment?

i can barely imagine what it be like to have a big turbo diesel or something, but i dont really have a need for THAT much power!!! lol.

The Cumming Inline 6 would fit nicely in there. But there are a whole other set of headaches with doing a diesel swap. Why not find a donor truck with a Hemi and go that route? That would be one of the easiest configurations to do.

I dont know if any engine will fit your tranny. Also, I was told by the other members that your Getrag (if you have the V6 tranny) that it will not handle a bigger engine. Also, your drive shaft? can it handle it? I dont know. Nobody answered my question about my V6 2 piece driveshaft able to handle a gear swap to 4.10. So I guess nobody knows that much here. Good luck if you do do it. I have seen them in ebay for 2 large ones.

Food fot thought here: I have found the engine I would like to swap to. I want to find one of the Freightliner / Dodge Sprinter vans that has been flipped or rear ended & totaled out. The engine in those vans is a 5 cyl. Mercedes Benz toubo diesel. 25+ mpg AND good pulling power! PLUS, I can run B100 BIODIESEL! (I am a strong advocate of. As well as the pure synthetic diesel fuel coming out in about 5 years from now.)

Wishbone - Yeah, im pretty sure a diesel would create alot of problems. And yeah, ive been looking at some hemi engines, on ebay and stuff, but theyre quite expensive. And going with eltupacs information id have to buy a transmission, if i didnt already come with it.

Thats why im trying to keep my eyes opened around here locally to see if i can get something cheap. My friend was rebuilding 1984 F - 250 and he found a good motor for less then a grand. I cant remeber what type or whatever it was, but it was a good deal, and its a nice truck.

you also have to keep in mind that the cummins is a hell of a lot more heavy than the ole v-6 or the hemi for that matter...if you could pull it off though it would be pretty cool. I would only do something like that though if the motor was bad. wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good truck.
