What do I have???
I'm hoping someone out here can help me. I just purchased a 2005 Dodge Ram Quad-Cab with the 4.7L V8. I'm trying to figure out exactly what I have in terms of towing equipment. According to the build sheet I got from Dodge, my truck has the Trailer Tow w/ 4-Pin Connector Wiring. Dodge has told me that this is the same as what is referred to as the Trailer Tow Prep Package.
I also have a blue wire under the dash that is not connected to anything which supposedly is part of the Tow Group Package. The blue wire I believe goes back to the 7-Pin connector on the rear bumper and is used to connect to a brake controller. However, Dodge is telling me that I don't have that package on my truck.
I do not have the 750amp battery that's part of the Tow Group Package. But they have listed as part of the Tow Group Package a Heavy Duty Engine Cooling with a code of W/DGQ. I have something listed with a code of DGQ 5-Spd Automatic 545RFE Transmission on my build sheet. Are these two things the same? I also have an auxiliary transmission oil cooler. Do I need to add another transmission cooler in order to tow? Dodge is telling me that my truck is currently setup to tow only 2000 lbs.
Sorry if this is confusing. Dodge just has me confused as to what I actually have on my truck. This all started when I was trying to install a brake controller and couldn't find the plug to plug into.
Thanks for all your help.

Pictures:
7 Pin Plug: You probabily have a Square plastic cap in here now... it is next to your plates on the bumper...

4 Pin Plug (all rams have this)and Class 4 Hitch Receiver (only added with tow package). ( I Have a Tri Ball in mine at the moment{not shown but you can see the master lock bolt used to keep it from being stolen (Bright WhiteCircle on hitch)})

Blue Plug plugged into connector under dash next to parking break: The other end is wired into the box in the next pic...

Brake Control Box (Used to set trailer brake intensity, how fast it engages, and to manually apply trailer brakes without using foot brakes{via slider}) This is an EASY wiring job as all wires are labeled and color coded... then you simply plug it in (above) and your done.... just make sure your trailer brakes are wired properly and the box is securely screwed to something!

Sorry no picts of the radiator... tried several times but couldn't get a usable image... it blends in to much using camera phone... (sorryI don't have a real camera... just my cell)
hope this helps
Hemiriden,
Thanks for the info but I'm afraid I'm still confused. I already have the 7-pin plug on the rear bumper along with a hitch. Underneath it is connected to the 4-pin connector.
I also have a blue wire just to the left of the brake pedal coming through the firewall. What I don't have is the blue connector under the dash to connect the brake controller to.
It almost looks like I have part of the tow package but not all of it since I do have the hitch and 7-pin plug but not the larger battery, etc.
Any ideas???
Thanks.

OK so you did find the blue plug under the dash that goes into the firewall... i think what your missing is the brake controller plug. (link) You may be able to get it cheaper from the dealer.... this is what you would wire into your break controller and then plug into the plug that comes through the firewall. And as for why some parts are their and other's are not.... look at the original build sheet (if you have it) I think your truck may NOT have come originally with a tow package but the first owner may have had it added on later. That would explain why it is missing a few things...It sounds likethey may have just had the hitch and wiring harness connected. All trucks will come with the blue plug in the firewall. If you get the plug and wire in the controller it should work.
