Default Cutout immediately after header/manifold???

I'm trying to get input regarding sound level and drivability with cutouts immediately after the manifolds. I have a true dual exhaust system, however the manifolds and cat's are all stock.

I've found a place that will install the cutouts directly after the headers and figure with the sound the system already produces, cutouts after the cats won't be much louder.

The cutouts are not electric, they are the standard "crawl under and unbolt" style. So I am concerned about driving from point A to point B with them open and not worrying about having to cap them off, if there are cops or if it's bad on the engine.

I am not looking for HP gains or performance, just the OBSCENE decibel level .My searches haven't produced anything, any input on sound and drivability??

Default RE: Cutout immediately after header/manifold???

The cutout is one of my favorite mod's and I would suggest the manual one all the way. First of all the cutout is illegal to drive with cus it bypasses all the emissions the exhaust catches and secondly it's loud as hell (oh my god amazing). I bought mine just for the drag strip so emissions and sound are not an issue, and I did get a .4 sec time gain just from the cutout. The reason I suggest the manual cutout is that I did alot of reading into the electric ones and there seems to be alot of problems with the electric motor braking or wearing out from road condtions. Also it has been very taxing on some people trying to deal with the factory warrentyand your lucky if the latch isn't stuck open. How hard is it to get under your truck and loosen three wingnuts, not very. To answer your questionmy boltsare hand tightened with lock washers andI drive hard all the time and they have yet to loosen at all and my exhaust rumbles hard as is.
Good luck with your choice and eaither way you will love it.

Sorry one last thing I noticed you are not interested in HP or performance gains, to me there is really no other reason for cutouts than just that it is a racing modification really. You will use more gas, be alot louder and it is illegal but again it is incredible.
