Yes it was the factory tow package with the bigger battery and transmission cooling in addition to the hitch and wiring. The truck was an ST model which is the only reason that I can figure it didn't come with the 3.92 from the factory... But then again the guy who started this thread states to have a 4x4 with 3.55'sso its just a matter of getting "that special one"
These days the 3.92 are supposed to be standard with the towing group...

RE: towing power
i have a hemi 4x2 QC short bed with 3.92 gears and the stock 20" ......i towed a trailer loaded with all my stuff from waterloo, IA to rochester, MI which is like 600 miles...trailer weighed 6200lbs with all my stuff in it...my gas mileage was 10.2 when i pulled into the place i live.......if it was me, i'd trade in for a CTD but the hemi has plenty of power to tow just about anything you want...just make sure you have a deep wallet if you plan on going very far
the 4.7 however.....it pulled what i needed it to pull, but it was a very time consuming process lol

RE: towing power
I have a 2007 Hemi automatic w/tow package and it came factory with 3.55 gears off the lot. We just towed a 19' travel trailer 2,000 miles (a few grades) and averaged 12.2 MPG. Took it easy with an average speed of 60-62 MPG. I guess they figure the power of the Hemi can handle the pull with the 3.55's? It seemed to do well on the worst of grades, with hardly any movement of the temp guage. In hind sight,if I were to do it over I would have ordered the truck with 3.92's. Guess I can have them done after the fact--any opinions? If I decide to get 'er done, should I have a dealer shop do it, or do they generally rip you off? Probably will need to let them do it for warranty puposes...

RE: towing power
I have to agree with HammerZ71, the 4.56 gears are the best thing I've done to my truck, and you'll get all the towing power you need!....although as others have said, if you are towing all the time a CTD prolly' would have been a better choice. Even though I love my gasser their is no arguing with the brute force and longevity of the mighty CTD especially if you tow allot or frequently.

RE: towing power
I just read a very good article on gears and the first paragraph states that ALL auto makers undergear their vehicles for two reasons.
"First and foremost" it said "are for emissions testing", I really don't know how the gears effect the emissions, unless you blow less crap out the exhaust at lower RPM's? "Secondly is to give the best possible fuel economy rating, and we all know these ratings are done under perfect conditions, and we seldom drive under perfect conditions".
The article also stated that the new Tundra includes 4.30 gears with all 4x4's (I think just with the big V8 but I'm not sure) and all vehicles that have the tow package. Also stated was that all newer V8's tested gave the best balance of performance & fuel economy when cruising on the highway at between 2000-2200 RPM, as when passing you are not revving from too low an RPM to hit the powerband, thus wasting a lot of gas.
If you think about it, it makes sense, at least to me. My Hemi with 35" tires cruises at about 70mph right in the middle of those numbers.
