I have an 04 4x4 Quad Cab 1500 Ram Hemi ThunderRoad. I pull anything I want with no problems. My boat weighs in at 4,000 and I haul it with a Loadrite tandum trailer. The truck has 3.55 rear and 17 inch tires. It also has the towing package. .I get 14.0 on the hiway towing the boat. Speed is no problem. It also has duals. It doesn't have a cap but it does have a fiberglass lid.

Just to clarify on my 6.5 mpg statement, the trailer i pulled was the eqiuvalent of a wind sail behind a ten speed bike. Some of the comments refer to heavy weight loads but its my opinion that a boat and/or livestock trailer is much more aerodynamic versus an upright travel trailer.

So to the original poster, what are you thinking of pulling?????

BTW - I ended up buying my own "small camper" and went with a Trailmanor (which is a glorified Popup camper) solely because of gas mileage savings. Instead of 6.5 mpg I now get 11.0 mpg. But I guess I still came out short in the end cause the travel trailer cost the same as my truck [&o].

ARE WE HAVING FUN YET!!!

What mods on that truck, my mom's boyfriend has a QC 4x2 4.7 and gets about the same mileage on the h'wy by itself that you do pulling all that weight. He has a smallish boat-about 16 feet- that is i'd say about 2000 pounds with gear and stuff and he is lucky to get 11mpg pulling it.

i have a bone stock '07 QC 4x4 4.7 with 1000 miles on it and just went on a short highway trip. with the cruise set at 70i reset the EVIC and it was reading about16.5-18.5. it jumped around alot because of a fresh reset and not many miles traveled. it has been at about 13.2 with about80% in town driving.
