Default 2004 4.7 Ticking after oil change?

I have a 04 Ram 1500 w/ a 4.7L. Just bought it with 34,000 miles on it. After I changed my oil, @ 36,000 it started to tick like a lifter has collapsed. I used Mobil 1 and K&N oil filter. Should I use some type of oil treatment orgo back to conventional oil. I've heard of the hemi tick but, as you can see, its not a hemi. Any insight or suggestions ? Please help.

What octane fuel are you running? I'd start by running a higher grade maybe a simple fix like that. Thats at least the simplest and cheapest place to start...

How many quarts of oil did you put in? You can try running 89 octance and see if that takes care of it. I know with the hemi's 87 will usually tick without a tuner

You say you just bought it, could it be that you might not have noticed it before the oil change? Reason I mention is because the 4.7's are known to crack exhaust manifold studs. The exhaust leak sounds very much like a lifter, but goes away once it warms up, as the manifold expands. Just a thought, I have that problem now.

Hanson, I put 7 qts in I think. anyway the level is reading full. I'll try the higher octane gas as well

United, It's possible that I didn't notice it but its pretty noticeable now. I have heard about the exhaust problem, but it's not leaking bad enough to see any signs of a leak. As you said, it does get quieter after the engine warms up, but doesn't disapear. Wouldn't a lifter do the same thing untill it finally gets enough oil to "pump it up" some?

Alot of the 4.7's will tick on a cold start-up (mine does) but then it goes away after a minute or two. Is this what you are experiencing?

Octane shouldn't cause a tick at idle. Try some conventional oil and seeif it quits.
