Default RE: Vibration

ORIGINAL: FL Cracker

This vibration problem seems to be an issue with several Rams. I have an '06 1500 Mega Cab that's doing the exact same thing. I took it to my local dealer to have the problem checked out and they said that the lugnuts on my wheels were too small. (never heard of that before) They put larger ones on and said that should fix the problem. It didn't change a thing.

Now they're telling me that it's because I have oversized tires. That they installed when the truck was new, by the way. I've had them trued and balanced twice, but I still get the exact same vibration at the exact same speed.[:@]
You better tell the dealership do you have summer air or fall air in the tires that mite help Ha Ha.

They are giving you a line of BS make them fix it or tell them you goning to use the lemon law and make them give you money back or give you a new truck that dose not vibrate should not be there it should drive nice not like a Chevy Ha Ha.

If they try to say it's the oversize tires tell them put some stock size tires on it so you can test drive the truck so you can see for you'r self and if it is the oversized tires it's there problem to make it right with the oversize tires to get the truck right they sold the truck to you that way it's there night mare and if they make you leave it over night tell them you want a loaner car on them also helps if you hand them you lawers card and tell them you want it fixed right this time.

Dont give in thats what they want not to fix it I sure you didn't speand all that money for a truck thats not right.

bluf: road force balance should eliminate the vibration

I own a 06 1500QC 4x4 Laramie 20" chrome clad wheelsand delt with the vibration on and off for about a year. First the dealer said the stock goodyear tires were bad. Had the original dealer deal with the issue and told him I did not want to truck back until it was fixed. I had a hard working salesman, and he had to go to a goodyear tire dealer to fix the issue. Returned the truck after a few days, vibration was gone.

I moved to AL and after my first rotate andbalance, the vibration is back! After 3 more rotates & balances and completing all recalls, the vibrations are still there. Vibration occured at 60 mph, very noticeable vibe in the steering wheel (back and forth motion) and visible shaking of the passenger seat. Not noticeable at low speeds <45mph or highspeeds >75mph.

Moved back to TN and went back to the orignal dealer and dropped off my truck. They called back and said i needed a ROAD FORCE BALANCE (not a standard rotate and balance). No tire is perfectly round, and no wheel is perfectly round.Depending on how your tires and wheel line up, the combination will exert acertain amount of"road force". Supposedly under 20lb of "road force" is acceptable, less than 10lb of road force is exceptional. They measured my wheels/tires and my front wheels/tires had 45+ lb of road force and one rear tire had 38lb of road force. EUREKA. They simply break the bead onthe tire and re-seat the tire so it matches with the wheel tomake it as "round" as possible, thus reducing road force. Seems like if you got the 20" wheels, you are likely more susceptible to road force issues. It costs about twice as much than a standard rotate & balance. $66 dollars later, no more vibration issues!!! I was near the point of trading in my truck due to the incessant vibrations. Now I am completely satisfied and vibration free. Hope this helps...

My .02 has an add on. The dealership that did the rear spring and shock upgrade on my 99 gave me a little insight. They said the reason the vibration was hapening was because the QC were put on the same frame as the regular cabs. The frames were not designed for the weight distribution with the added cab, hence the vibrations. Makes me wonder if the RC, QC, and MC were all put on the same frame causing the different weight distribution causing the vibration. Just some conjecture on my uneducated Nebraska/Navy/Gunners Mate/Non-engine/vehicle knowing ***.

I took my truck to the dealership and they said all recalls had be taken care of before i got it. they suggested a rotate and balance so i did. it did not help at all. when i call them back up what should i tell them. that it is just still vibrating or suggest the 'road force' thing or what?? thanks for all your input..

tell them you still have a vibration and ask them to test your tire/wheels for excessive 'road force'. they should know what it is. your dealership may or may not have the proper equipment to test or fix your problem. it is a relatively new procedure. you should be able to find a wheel/tire joint that can ROAD FORCE BALANCE. best $66 i ever spent. it will take care of force vibrations not addressed with a simple balance. here is a link for more edumacation on the topic: http://www.redwoodgeneraltire.com/balance.htm

GOOD LUCK!

this following site will let you search for a nearby place that can "road force balance" your wheels/tires. the difference isthe machine balances your tire/wheels under loaded conditions as opposed to simply balancing. makes a remarkable difference - like driving a new truck.

check out this older post:

https://dodgeforum.com/m_890200/tm.htm

especially the part where chadmech writes that:

The Tsb # is 02-001-07 REV A this has been there since mar 31 07. Chrysler is aware of this is and is trying to adress the issue this tsb should get rid of most of the vibration in the front end.....With regards to the tsb that the dealer says doesn't apply (because it mainly deals with shudder during braking). The bushings that are in the control arms are to soft causing the suspension to bounce alot. I have personally done this tsb for your problem along with road force balancing the tire and rims and the problem was almost gone. I didn't own this truck butI drove it on the highway at 65 mph andI couldn't stand the vibration. If this was my truck I would leave it there until this issue was resolved. I hope this helps this is an issue that Chrysler is aware and this is not going to go away.

You can directly read this particular TSB at Dave Fritz's website:
