Default Vibration

I have a vibration in my steering wheel at speeds of around 30-40 mph then it goes away. its not a shake but rather a strong cyclic vibration that you can even hear. what could this be? I have had my truck, an 06 1500 QC 5.7 4X4 for about 2 months. it only had 9700 miles on it when i bought it. it does have the 20' chrome wheels on it. sometimes the road gets really rough here in NW alabama so could this be a wheel out of balance or something worse??

I had a 99 1500 QC 4X4 and had the exact same problem. They "fixed" it by doing a factory warranty upgrade of replacing the springs and shocks with 3/4 ton ones. The fix was actually for a curb height issue but they used it to resolve my issue. By the way, it didn't work. They made sure to let me know I "couldn't" pull or carry a 3/4 tons load because in order to do that I needed the larger brakes and different set up. I know this is a different model and year but might be good info.

Yep.............It could be a wheel out of balance. This does manifest itself by the steering wheel rocking left/right and you can "drive through" the sweet spot so to speak.
Have them checked, as you might have throwna balance weight off the wheel.

Check the front hub bearings as well. I am pretty sure 06's have a recall on them?

The 06 Ram 1500's have 3 recalls right now. The front hub/bearings (G-02), passenger airbag (F-40), and passenger seatbelt (F-41). I just had all 3 done a couple weeks ago when i did the 30,000 mile service.

Same here I had mine done about a month ago.

Something like not enough grease in the front hubs will cause vibrations.

I think you can go to the Doge web site put in you'r Vin # and it should let you know about the recall.

This vibration problem seems to be an issue with several Rams. I have an '06 1500 Mega Cab that's doing the exact same thing. I took it to my local dealer to have the problem checked out and they said that the lugnuts on my wheels were too small. (never heard of that before) They put larger ones on and said that should fix the problem. It didn't change a thing.

Now they're telling me that it's because I have oversized tires. That they installed when the truck was new, by the way. I've had them trued and balanced twice, but I still get the exact same vibration at the exact same speed.[:@]
