Infinity stereo system
I didn't realize it, but I believe I have the Infinity system in my 2003 Ram. The head unit doesn't say infinity, abd neather did the door speakers, but the rears (standard cab) do, as well as the dash speakers. I suppose I should have guessed that with a 7 speaker system, that Infinity was the only option.
OK, here is my dilemma. I bought some Polk db690 6x9's for the door, and when I plugged them in, I could basically only hear bass. I guess that is how the infinity amp works, but if I had known that, I wouldn't have bought the Polks, which aren't renowned for bass. What brand or model speakers in 6x9 or otherwise would be good for the door to utilize the bass frequencies to the doors? If I have to get components, does anybody make a 6.5 round to 6x9 adapter?
Also, do the Infinity Kappas in the 3.5 inch size for the dash offer a noticeable improvement over the factory Infinitys?
I am going to keep the factory head unit cuz I live in an area where theft would be a concern, and I don't want to get into the wiring and expense of doing aftermarket subs and amps, but I think I can improve the sound quite a bit if I get the right speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the sort of half moon panel, pops up and the pull back, there are a bunch of clips. There are 2 7mm screws on each one. I make a plate out of abs plastic and then use a hole saw for the new tweet dia.. You can also do 3.5" coax speakers in the dash instead of new tweets.
I got some 6x9 mid-bass subs yesterday made by a company called CDT Audio, Model CL-69. I am gonna install them in the next couple of days and post my impressions. Since the doors get only bass in the Infinity system, I think these might be the ticket.

Funny, I always was under the understanding that Infinity speakers have amps built into them, hence part of the reason they are so expensive.
Chief you are some what correct. The newer jeeps and a few other newer chryslers have the amp bolted on to the speaker it self. The rams with infinity have a seperate amp behind the glove box. The amp sends low to mid range frequencies to the 6x9's and full range to the dash speakers. The best way to get around all this is to run new wires to the amp and tone out the speakers in the doors.

Dodge or Infinity are idiots they put subs in the front doors and the tweeters in the dash. In my truck I can only turn the radio up to 30 before my plastic door panels start making this annoying cracking noise. I thought infinity sound was supposed to be great 800.00 option worthless
