REAR DIFF??????
I need to know what to do? I found one of those clips on the magnet in my rearend last week and need to know what i need to replace? can i just but a auburn or detroit and thats all i need to get? it dosent seem like their is any damage in it except for the well i dont know what they are called but they have the 2 bolts on the outsides and also a bolt in the middle with a spacer on it what is that call ed its on both sides and one has a lil groove run it it. So what diff to go with any suggestions thanks.
I had the same repair done at my dealership a few weeks ago.
The center section (ring gear with carrier) needs to come out, the posi clutch pack retaining clips are then they're replaced with a thicker, beefier clip. (10% beefier, if that)
I found mine during a normal rear service (completely different meaning if you're in prison) and ended up wasting 3 qts of gear lube, since they dropped it a week later and charged me to refill it.
Total cost of the repair from my dealer was $200, including repair, 3 qts synthetic gear lube and posi additive.

no its not under warrenty so that sucks which rear is better hvac? also oldmoparman it was only 200 to get fixed without warrenty? also where do you live? i would like to get a aftermarket one but thats 500 for it and then to get it installed im sure is a nother 200 or so
I live in PA.
Usually, after the clip breaks,it begins to rotate out of the clutch pack unit about 90*. This allows it to scrape the housing and start creating metal particles in the rear, and it craps up the bearings and ruins everything.
Yes....it was $200 for the repair, without a warranty. I actually have an extended warranty, but it has a $200 deductible. Go figure......

i have an Auburn in mine and i like it...cant say as tho i love it, but i like it....if it was me and i had to redo it again, i'd go with the detroit tru-trac...mainly because it's all gears inside, not clutches that can wear out over time....there both quality products so your not gonna be unhappy with which ever you choose, however the detroit you can run synthetic with, the auburn (from what i've heard) your not suppose to (i do anyways)....might also look buying a new rear diff cover, lil pricey but well worth it to hold an extra 2 qts or so to keep it cooler......the auburn i bought was $440 shipped (next day air)....if i remember right, i bought it from 4wheelparts.....
couldnt tell ya an install charge, i did mine myself....not a bad job if you have the tools needed

If you've ever looked at a tru-trac, you'd see exactly how small those gears are. I have a friend in the rear end business and he see's broken tru-trac gears all the time. Auburn is the way to go. There are also selectable lockers that are lim slip when open, and full spool when locked. That would be great when max traction is needed such as old tore up gravel boat launch.

Could you help with this?
When replacing one, or all of these C clips withthe new modified c clips, do you need to set up anything in the diff, like lash or anything, when re-installing the clutch packs?
I live, as you probably know, in the UK. I don't have the option of having this work done at a dealership and there are no experienced corporate 9.25" rear end specialists out here.[:@]
If I don't need to "set up" the rear end again, or usereal specialist tools, could I replace these clips myself with the new modded ones? I can turn a wrench on a semi pro basis......

I had a clip pop out last year and have been running around without it, for over a year now, with no problems as yet............?[sm=confused06.gif][sm=icon_stickpoke.gif][sm=hail.gif]
