Default Scratched Body Paint - What are my options?

Hey I did a post about my rims being scratched and I was digging all the help I got so I thought I'd also ask about my body paint.

I got the factory black paint. I have some scratches that are not deep. I've buffed them out but it seems with rain and other weather, you'll see the scratches again. I thought about getting the whole thing clear-coated again, maybe a dumb idea but I just wanted my truck to be sparkling like it just got out of the dealership like it used to.

Granted I know black is hard to keep from scratching up, but I got in a bit of a sticky situation that kind of made the scratches come in. They're not that bad, but need some touch ups.

For chips - what would u recommend?
For superficial scratches - what would u recommend? (Buff with what type of wax?)

Any help would be good. I was thinking about taking it to an auto body shop and ask them to just touch up a certain places which ever way they could, thinking it might be spendy.

If you have the time and money... Reclear is your BEST option for an immaculate looking truck, albiet not the most cost effective. Factory clear jobs are usually pretty weak. Several coats of a high quality clear coat will give your paint depth and an incredible shine, and be much more protective. You can only buff the stock clear so much, you'll eventually burn through it if you over do it. If you do go the reclear route, wax it and wax it often. That will keep it looking shiny and new for a long time to come.

Accept the fact that you own a truck and it will always have some sort of scratch, ding or mark on it. Are you really thinking of re-clearing it? Are you using it for car shows? Don't get me wrong, to each his own but the sooner you accept that the sooner it wont bother you all the time. Just wax it with a good quality wax. Use some rubbing compound to take out the scratches and use touch up to repair the chips to prevent corrosion.

Haha. Ok I get ur point HAWKDRIVER. But I don't think you got mine. Granted everyone with any vehicle is not giong to be able to keep them brand new. But I have noticeable superficial scratches in several areas. I've buffed it with several of waxes and it just reappears with 1 day of rain. Simple as that.
I don't go to car shows, or trying to sell it. It's just I want to get it to a point where it'll look good, look like the original paint and not just show flaws everytime it rains.

Also I saw at places like Napa Auto Parts, some paint chip fillers that you just simple drop on, what are the opinions on that?

Touch up paints work, but if you are going to do that i'd go to the dealer and get it. Granted its a lil more spendy but its an exact match to your paint. And be careful putting it on, use a little bit, you can always put some more on but good luck taking it off....

It was a joke. My truck was never purple, I was just playing with Paintshop...
Krylon is a brand of spray paint.

Haha, well I thought the color was kinda bold. But didnt know if you were a chick or something who wanted that color. Never know.

As for krylon, spray paint that will just mesh real easy and look like the original body paint?

No I think he was joking about that also. At least I hope he was.

I use a 10" orbital buffer and Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish to get out scratches.

For small chips I use OEM Touchup paint and 1500 to 2000 grit sand paper (used very lightly)then buff with a "SLOW drill" and layered cloth buff wheel. Then the Big Buffer and Polish.

One more thing I don't use wax anymore I use Liquid Glass.
