Just bought a new 2007 dodge 1500 andafterI let it sit for awhile when i drive away it sounds as though i spit up a rock but this can not be ?? does anyone have any ideas what this noise might be ?? I kinda thought that it might be the abs cycling but it sounds to loud to be that .
Any help would be great as i dont really want to take it back to the dealer for a simple little noise

97 its does not sound like a knock it sounds more like if you took a rock and threw it against the body of the truck . the sound only happens once until the next time you fire it up and drive . you have to drive if you just let it sit there the sound does not happen.
It could be a exhaust leak at the exhaust manafold if it only happens when it cold after it heats up the metal expands and it sealing up.
If it is a exhaust leak it just will get worse after time if you let it get to bad after you run the truck cold air will go back up the exhasut leak void and end up burnning you exhasust valve but this takes a while to do this So dont panic you most likley going to have to leave the truck at the dealer over night so they can hear the leak.
And talk to the GUY who's going to work on it face to face and tell him it only happens when it cold at first stat up do releyon theservice writters to write this down sometimes this mainproblem get lost in the translation from custormer to mechanic in writing.
I had a truck that had a exhaust leak and could not find it it ended up beening a spark plug that was blowing out of the head thoses darn Ford products 5.4 V-8 never again, one of the resons I came back to Dodge plus the employee price helped a lot when I purchased this truck.

I have the same problem, it sounded line fine rocks pinging the side of the door, but it was on my passenger side... I thought it was salt because it recently snowed but continued long after the roads cleared up... I had a service guy ride with me but as usual it didn't happen at the time.. Anyways no ideal what it was, it just eventually stopped.
