My 06 does the same thing, usually after taking off and with the wheels turned a little bit. Kinda sounds like the tires threw a rock out but it makes the sound a lot so I know it can't be rocks.

If it is while the truck is not running and cooling down, it's probably just metal contracting, like pipes in an old house. All vehicles do this to some extent.
