which chip to buy for fuel economy
got a 2002 quad cab ram1500 4x4 which like to suck gas... been reading about all the different types of chips and stuff... just wondering if anyone can offer some info on how to better fuel economy... getting about 13mpg right now... just did a tuneup on the truck also...

Hm. Lot of MPG posts and ways to improve. Might want to look a bit more on the forumn as there's been lots of talk about MPG, I even did one slightly mentioning it and I got lots of comments. Haha.
13 MPG sounds actually pretty damn good if that's what youre getting in the city. If all together that's your average, i'm averaging around 15-16mpg just letting my meter read it when im on the highway and in the city.
Things I suggest are CAI (cold air intake). Defintiely made a noticeable change. Also, lot of people dont think that a throttle body spacer will help, but to be honest dude - I personally think it does. I can tell a bit of torque that was gained from the spacer and maybe a small increase of .8-1.0 MPG gain. Those 2 are definitely sometihng to look into because they're pretty inexpensive upgrades and thoughts.
when looking into Programmers. I don't recommend hypertech if you're looking for MPG gains. Hypertech did not let me change my shift points, nor shift firmness wasn't changed. I definitely noticed an unleashed aspect of my truck. Petal to the metal and that thing was just blazing. But I know even when I drove more conservatively, nothing changed.
Superchips on the other hand. After all the mods I did, Superchips brought it together. granted you can't change the shift firmness, (it does it automatically and only noticeable if you floor it) but it jumped my MPG 1-2 gallons. I would recommend it. I still have a bit more to play around with my programmer. Some recommended me jumping up to 91 octane because then MPG is increased even more as well as performance. So I might just do that.
But words from experience, with upgrades comes the desire to really step on the gas. Exhaust definitely made me just want to rip it aronud every corner and off every line of a traffic stop. (making MPG decrease). So when you buy performance upgrades, they can help MPG only if you decide to use it conservatively.
Just a few thoughts, hope that helped some.

Well I guess it depends on personal experience. After putting on the 35's,the truckwas getting 8.5 miles per gallon. After adding the hypertec, exhaust, and CAI, the truck is now getting 11 mpg. That is with 3.73 gears and running 87 octane.
might want to look at the predator by diablo. It says tht it gets 20 hp and 20 ft torque vs superchips 18 each. I also remember reding mpg can go up as well. not sure which one is better though. I am going to buy one or the other this week.
Dont forget to be careful with + HP though. Makes you want to drive like a maniac just cause you beastified your rig. Also for tire size and all that, from the word I've heard - Lifting your rig, Getting big tires = both will lower your MPG. And reverse I heard that if you lower your rig it will gain a little MPG. SO i'm told.

I'd do a search online and have one shipped to you. Retail in a store you'd be paying about $100 more than if you bought one online.

now anyone know where to get this stuff in canada? superchips or jetchips or the like?
