Default towing

I have a 05 4x4 hemi quadcab. I tow a 22' jetboat around town which (4000Lbs). I just purchaced a travel trailer 25' (3100lbs dry), i pulled it out of town on a 400 mile round trip. I got 8mpg going 60-65 (calculated). This is not flat ground towing i should say, my start destination is 750' and my ending is 5000' with alot of up and down in between. I have a after market kn intake system and after market dual exhaust. I guess my question is should i switch to a ctd or stay with my hemi, it just seemed like it worked pretty hard to get there. its got the big horn package, tow/haul button, towing package. thanks

Honestly for towing your never going to beat a diesel. How often are you going to be towing? Is it just once in a while or would it be enough to justify the price of the diesel?

those weights arent too much for a hemi but if you can affoard ctd you can get better gas mileage and tow easier but to save money just keep the hemi possibly gears and a tuner....

travel trailers always raise havoc with gas mileage because the terrible aerodynamics at the front. Boat towing is always much kinder to mileage. I would stay with the hemi.

CTD is the towing machine. However gears and a programmer would help you.

I'm not sure about price differences currently, but I think when my Dad was pricing out his 2002 Ram CTD it was approx. $6000 more than a gas 2500 Ram which I'll guess is $4,000-$5,000 more than a Ram 1500--that's a lot of gas.

I plan on towing quit a bit next season, mostly close to home around 200-400 mile round trip. How much more would the tuner help. I have to say i love my truck, I've spent the last couple of years fixing it up the way i like it, i hate the thought of starting over.
