Tranny question
07 Quad cab 1500 5.7, 12000 milesis making a "clunking noise" going from park to drive. From park to reverse it takes about 2 seconds to get into gear and you can hear a slight "gear grind?" SHifts normal on the road, no problems. It's just moving between the gears that seems a bit funky. Any feedback? Dealer says bring it in and they'll look at it.
Mine doesn't have the clunk sound, but it does make the gear grinding sound, or more like a rattle sound whenchanging from the neutral positions to any moving position. It does it especially when it is cold out. It doesn't do it as muchafter the truck warms up though. Just within the first little while of driving. But...what can you expect from a chrysler tranny. Let us know what the dealership says if you take it.
Surgery complete? Picked up the truck after going through the hassel of dropping it off, getting a ride and all the other crap. The day before drop off, two mechanics sat there and listened to it, played around with it. One said it sounds like the rear, the other, the transmission. Wife picked up the truck, no paper work, service manager said they changed the fluid in the transfer case and to drive it a while to see what happenes, like what, like me breaking down in Ottawa next week? Hopped in the truck, put it in reverse, ggrriinnnddd, and drove to the market. I guess I should thank myself for buying the lifetime warranty. Maybe the grind is normal? While sitting in the lot, in park, moved the four wheel drive selector switch into 4 wheel, then 4 wheel low. Didn't drive it, just moved the switch, but at that point, it wouldn't get out of 4-wheel drive for half an hour. WTF?
Keep telling yourself this all you want, but grinding is NOT normal. This has been an inherant problem with the newer Hemi trans, 06 and newer, if not just 2007, and complaints are-a-plenty through out the forum. The same trans didn't do it prior, so why now.......(?)
Yes it's good you have a warranty.
No it's not "Normal".
