I agree with most everyone in the forum. It may last another 5 years but I would rather be safe than sorry. I believe i would change it to be safe.

Well, i went by Sear's yesterday, hoping to replace my battery, and discovered that they are no longer selling "Optima" batteries.
But, "Die Hard" is now selling a "Platinum Die Hard" which is there top battery....Guaranteed for 8 years....at a whopping cost of $199.00...any thoughts, or opinions?

A 5 year old battery is on borrowed time. It's just like your radiator hoses - they may last 15 years or one may split after 5. You never know, but you should replace 'em before you have problems. That's how preventative maintenance works.

BTW, after making my post yesterday, I found out the hard way that my lawn tractor's battery is dead. It's worked perfectly every 2 weeks for 3 years and now it's less than 10 volts. At least I didn't need the tractor to drive to the store to buy a new battery...

Carry a set of Jumper cables if it dies. If it go's bad then go get you'r self a new battery.

Most of the time someone is going to be around to give you a Jump most of us have either given someone a jump at least once or better most drivers know what go's around comes a around one day you mite need a jump so when you see some one that need a jump give them one one day it mite be you.

Unless it the same driver every day thats to cheepor goout of there own way to get a new battery or there own jumper cables, I dont mine helping others out but there some drivers out there that should not own a car or truck.

Dont get me going on those that have trailors that can't back them up.

I no longer give jumps....And before you get your panties in a bind, let me explain..
A couple of years back, when i had my other truck, I was at a gas station getting gas, when this guy with a BMW asked me if i could give him a jump...Well, i said no problem...He didn't have any cables, so i used mine. Now, because of liability issues
(BMW vehicle, and i didn't want to be responsible for his electronics if anything went wrong) I let him hook the cables up.
Well i don't know what this clown did, but the next thing i know, his vehicle is starting to smoke, and eventually was engulfed in flames. Well, after the flames were out, and my cables were destroyed- do you know this guy didn't even offer to replace the cable...
Since then, i very rarely give jumps..

if ur not ready to buy a battery, carry some bayer asprin tablets if u can access the cells on the batt. if it leaves u dead and alone drop 1 tablet down each cell and wait 30 min.good chance it will start,ONCE!!! don't know the chemistry but have seen this work. also it will ruin what is left of the batt quick, but what the hey,it was dead anyway.

get a load test on your starting and charging system to see how the whole systerm is performing, your five year old battery could still be as good as new, once you start dropping $$$$$ on parts, the rest of the truck gets upset and wantsnew parts as well.

Just go out to advance or autozone and get a mid grade battery for about $60 bucks, odds are it will last you another five years.
