Default sounds after regearing

When I first got my truck regeared there was a mild wind down sound in my front end, and a couple other sounds. Now a few weeks later there are no sounds. Does this mean they are broken in?

How many miles do you have on them? When I was looking into gears I was told about 1000-1500 miles to get them truely broken in

The gears should not make any noise From day one.

I take it you have a 4X4 you'r front end should not be engaged in 2 WD they should not be turnning anyways, That means no noise have you used 4X4 yet if not give it a try and see what it sounds like.

Sound travels through you frame of you'r truck it mite sound like the front end but it could be comming from some were else.

the front end is partially engaged when you are in 2wd.the front end axles, diff and drive shaft still turn. 4wd engages at the t case not at the hubs like most 4wd's. so you will hear front end gear whine if your gears are a little off.

New gears run a little warm at first durring break in but after that every thing should return to normal after that.

I have regeared 4 diffrent trucks and only have had 1 problem truck it had noisy rear over heated rear end gears Ect I learned a lot with that nightmare about gears and how things work or don't work.

But on the good side the shop who did the gears hated that truck It went back at least 10 times and many gear sets latter and bearing sets they had to eat the cost of it all.

DeWalt378G is right they turn a little but I would not think enough so you could hear them un less 1 or both of you hubs are not unlocking.

I have about 500 miles on them now. The sound was only there when I was going over about 50, then would let off the gas. As soon as I pushed the gas back in the sound would leave. Now there is zero sound, other then what was there before the regearing, no whining or anything.

Since you are at the magical 500 mile point since you changed your gears, you need to change that break-influid now. So it's the perfect time to look and see if everything looks perfect. There should be no metal shavings in the lube at all. Take the extra time to check the pinion & ring for any wear, check the backlash. That's the only way to know for sure.

yeah deffinitly need to change the fluid and there shouldnt have been any noise after the gear swap was done...i changed the gears in my truck and i used come cheap $4/qt fluid for the break-in fluid and then used Mobil 1 (which i need to change...been 1500 miles since the swap so gonna switch over to Amsoil)...from the gear swaps i've done, i've never had one make any noise so deffinitly check the fluid and see if there's any metal shavings or anything like that in there
