It really pisses me off what these guys charge for simple weld repairs. To mig weld a hangar literally takes 5 minutes and and about 2 cents of material.
And about $750+ for a decentwelder, and $100 for the bottle, filled..............

It is a simple repair, and it does take only a few minutes, but shops are there to make money, not do free repairs. In my experience, most shops would BS you, and tell you that you need new exhaust/tailpipe, then repair the existing one for a few dollars.

If it was a regular customer, that's a completely different story. I did all kinds of free stuff for my customers that were regular and spent countless dollars at my shop. If I thought a guy was going to come back, I'd do a solid for him as well. Most people just want stuff for free, though...........

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying ANYONE should do it for free, but I think $20 would be plenty to re-weld a hangar, I don't care how much the welder cost. I've got a nice little 110 mig, plugs in anywhere, gas kit included for under $350.Does anything you could ask of it, I can't remember the lasttime I plugged in my 220 stick welder.
MAPP gas kit was under $75, gets almost as hot as Oxy-Acetalyne. Only down side is the tips are rather small, so you can't do really big jobs with it, and it takes a little longer (more gas) to heat things up. But is great for small medium jobs in the field where getting electricity to it is hard. Very compact, I carry the whole thing (gas, stand, goggles, gloves, brush, etc.) in a canvas carry bag in my truck tool box. If you can sweat joints with propane & solder then you can weld and braze with this setup.

I agree. There's no reason to charge more then that for such a simple repair. I think some shops give rediculous prices, because they really don;t want the job.

I havea 110V Lincoln Mig unit. I rarely use it, but when I need it, it's worth every penny.....

You need a reciprocating sawor a hack saw.

But if you are going to buy these it would be cheaper you have it fixed.

found a shop to do it, welding it back would be $15-20, dumping it would be $40. Much better than I expected. I think I have decided to dump it, what do y'all think?
