Default wheel size for '06 1500

i have read in a couple links about wheels having to be at least 17" to fit over the brake calipers on the newer 1500's. can someone please explain that for me. i as thinking about taking my stock 20's off of my 06 and putting on my stock1 16's off of my 96. i wanna run some AT or MT for winter and looking for a cheaper way out than the 20's. thanks

I have an 02 with 17s. There's barely enough clearence between the rim and the caliper to fit 17s on, let aloneto fit 16" wheels on it.

I had the opportunity for some sweet, uptown 16" wheels and they wouldn't fit. Over rear drums, yes. Over disc brake calipers, no.
