i just bought a new cap for my truck and promptly left for a trip. went to turn the interior light on in the cap and it didn't work. i found out i had to have my parking lights on for it to work. when i came back i called the place that installed it and they said that thats how you have to wire the dodges. if you tap into a constant hot it will set off your CEL.
anyone agree with this or have opinions? i was going to tap into my hot wire going to my factory trailer plug so i had a constant hot.

 

A constant hot will work fine.

 

You could just run a new wire can't you? on it's own fused line?

 

that was my thought but the guy said it would trip the CEL. didn't make sense to me so i figured i'd check on here.

I cheated, and bought cheap stick on lights with batteries, verry effective.
I had hopped my topper would be on my truck 100% of the time, but I bought a new fridge.....

 

CEL=check engine light

 

Now how would installing an accesory trip the light? I installed 3 sets of auxillary lights on my truck and have'nt set of anything.... I think whom ever was jerkin your chain....
