hmmm...had a prblem
well, i left detroit today to go back home to Iowa for a wedding. Driving along on I-94 doin about 80 keepin up with traffic and just as I go by a rest stop I hear this really loud BANG and then a whole bunch little bangs lol....so i pull over, get out and look under the truck and what do i see........half of my drive shaft laying on the ground still bolted to the rear diff....the front half of the drive shaft is laying somewhere on I-94 around mile marker 42 or so....so yeah, dont have the slightest idea what in the hell happened...didn't run anything over, didn't hit anything it just plain got ripped in half.....so i called the guys i work with to have em check on getting me one right away tomorrow morning and guess what...they are on nation back order......so i'm stuck sittin at this dealer till i tell him to look up other dealers so i can call em and see if they by chance have one in stock......the one dealer that does was 93 miles away so i jumped in the loaner Neon [:@]and busted *** to get there (which i did with about 10 minutes to spare...left at 4:30 the guy was gonna stay till 6) so needless to say this is what the truck needs: drive shaft, charcol canister, EVAP filter, emissions harness....so hopefully it'll be fixed and i'll be back on the road tomorrow morning....just thought i'd share my really ****ty day with everyone

That sux... really does... and Why is it when you need a part for a truck it's always on backorder nationwide? I had an 05 Ram 4.7 and within a couple weeks my EGR valve went... and i had to wait I think almost a month to get one.... But hope all goes well for ya... enjoy your trip....

This isn't the first time I've heard of the 2wd driveshafts failing. All the other cases I've heard of had 4.56 gears. If I remember correctly, the 2wd's have aluminum driveshafts, and the 4wd's have steel. I have not yet heard of the 4wd having driveshaft failures like that, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't happened with the steel driveshafts.

I had an '88 Chevy 1500 that had to spend nearly two weeks in the shop 'cause it needed the two bolts that held the alternator to the block (yeah, the block -- the idiots didn't have sense enough to mount a bracket on the block, then mount the alternator to the bracket). The bolts had to come from Canada, and that warehouse didn't stock a part that failed regularly.

ok so i finally got some pics....i actually stopped and looked around to see if I could find the other half of my driveshaft but never could find it...and i dunno how well you can see it, but there's actually an indentation in the u-joint from the needle bearings when it failed (think just got a bad part, so i'm gonna take it to work and see about getting my money back for the driveshaft, labor, and my motel room)
