Default U connect

I just picked up my 2007 ram 1500 sporton monday it came with alot of options, the only one it dosen't haveis uconnect system in it. Now i have a couple of questions the truck came with a sunroof, overhead console, auto dimming mirror. now from what i read theres a chance that the wires might already be there. If that is the case do i just by the mirror and harness and im ready to go and is the uconnect box already there? Or am i completly off here?

You will need to order the module from the dealer for this plus one additional harness. The module is known as the mic module and it is mounted at the rh side of the IP. If you remove the side access panel to the IP(Passenger Door will have to be open) you can get to the mounting location for this module, but you have to remove the glovebox to complete the install. I think the module is about $200.00 bucks or so. I got mine free from a friend. Then just route the additional harness up the a pillar to the mirror and install the new mirror. Then see if you can get the dealer to code it for you for a reasonable cost.

Not sure about what has to be done to add it. Mine came with it and it is freakin sweet. One thing to ask your self is are you gonna keep the stock stereo for a long time? If not many after market stereos have it available for a price.

I added the Mopar kit to mine. Uses a small mic I attached to the overhead console and a small touchpad I attached to the far left side of the center bezel. Very easy to install and works exactly like the factory installed unit. Just doesn't use the mirror.

Since I've added this does any know if I could change out my mirror and run the kits harness up to it rather than the seperate mic and keypad?

Does anyone know the preferred mounting location for the dealer installed uconnect? I wondered if the small rectangular part with the buttons can be installed in any cutouts on the dash? Don't they also connect to the radio for mute or to use the radio speakers for the phone?

Is the U Connect dealer system different for the 2006-2008 model? I had it in my 2004 and 2005 Ram and it was an easy install, but when I tried to patch it into the back of my radio inmy 2008, it didn't power up...Any ideas?

The kit I got was for 2007-8 Rams and other vehicles. It has the smaller control with a round button in the middle and a small button on top. the older style was more rectangular with 3 or 4 buttons. The kit I bought was part number 82211005 and the older kit was 82207853AF (or AE).

The control unit goes to the right of the glove box and straps to a metal support. A harness extends to the radio where you plug one end into the radio and the connector originally in the radio then goes into the extra connector on the harness. A microphone has enough wire to extend from the control, up the right windshield post, across the headlines, and then mount with 2 sided tape on the drivers sdie windshield pillar. I may move mine to the control panel on the ceiling though. The button is suppoed to mount to the left of the fan speed control and the wire wraps around the bexel to the backside of the dash, and over to the control box. I mounted mine by placing a small notch in the black panel in the lower center dash bezel and runnning the wire through the plastci piece. The button also mounts with 2 sided tape. I felt the location was easier to get to if a passenger wanted to make a call.

My brother in law with a body shop got the kitfor me from the dealer for about $240. I hated paying that much for a bluetooth device. BUT, I have to admit this system works extremely well. It mutes the radio on incoming or outgoing calls. the radio displays the phone number. The voice dialing is handled with the Uconnect system so no problem if it isn't built into your phone. My phone and wifes are both setup so wecan both make/receive calls. You can even just say "dial" and then the phone number and it will display on the radio and dial it. I think you can pair up to 5 phones with it. The setup is all with voice prompts built into the system and is very easy. The sound quality is excellent and the phone plays back through the radio speakers. I think some of the earlier kits had a separate speaker just forthe uconnect. I really scraped up my hands installing it under the dash.

I highly recommend this kit. It's nice to never fumble and look for my phone and instead just drive. I just wish they had a better place to mount the control and microphone but I'll live with it because it works so good. Sorry to ramble but I had a hard time finding this information before I ordered mine.
