Question about the different stereos
I have an 04 quad cab hemi with the infinity speakers and im looking into getting a 07 and am interested in the AUX jack for my ipod that only comes in the standard one disc stereo not the 6 disc infinity is there a major difference in sound between the two? thanks
infinity is a higher quality speaker that sounds slightly better... i think it also has an amp to the speakers... if you wanted you could sell the cd changer and get an auxilary input for it
The audio out of the single disc with the input is pretty decent. I am eventually going to upgrade because at higher volumes the speakers crack and it doesn't produce bass and treble very well together, but its not horrible. Plus I am a huge kenwood fan and I alway need a good kenwood stereo. I haver got my eyes on one now that has an aux input as well as a USB input, sweet!
Get the standard stereo for the aux input. Once you get an extra $350 or so, have everything upgraded. The sound quality compared to the Infinity system is way different. Lower power, crappy speakers, and as mentioned above, higher volumes cause the paper thin speakers to crackle. The infinity system is better, but not worth the upgraded price that the dealer will charge for the add on. It would be better to go standard and when you get a chance, just upgrade. I paid $365 for a complete pioneer system, and yes I got the aux input on my new stereo...
when you say upgrade do you mean head unit and all or is it possible to just upgrade the speakers im new to the whole stereo thing i like the infinity on my 04 but i really want the aux input

Up grade everything, including the head unit. Both the Infinity system and the standard have extremley low power. Hence the amp that is needed for the Infinity system. The sound you get from a decent stereo from Best Buy or Circuit City is much better than either of the stock set ups. Both stores too are always running free installs when you buy. They run that special at least 8 times a year. Circuit City is running the sale right now and has been running it for the last 5 months. Buy a head unit for $99 or more and have it installed for free plus the wiring need which is usually like $30. An aftermarket headunit will blow the stock speakers pretty quick, so plan on changing the speakers as well.
I bought the iPod kit sold to the right on the Mopar parts site. The instructions read that it is for all dates except 06 so I am confused. I also have to pull out the stereo to hook this up. Beginning to think I should have just but the FM tuner kit like I did for my wifes BMW!
When I ordered my Ram, I intentionally ordered it with the single disc head unit and junk speakers. I did this to allow me to change out the whole system without having to deal with the separate amp thats required for the Infijnity system. It got me by until I could save up for what I really wanted (now installed). The aftermarket products are WAY better than any stock system for the Ram!
I went with the Pioneer 9800BT system, which I added the USB connection to, and the XM module.
Now I could hook up an I-POD, if I had one, but better than that, I use a 1-gig thumb drive for my MP3's. I installed Boston Accoustics speakers to replace the junk speakers from the factory.
My vote says get the 4 speaker junk, with the single disc head unit and save your money for a REAL system-----the diference is incredible
