bad on fuel pumps and if it becomes a habit, over time rust will collect in the tank and get sucked into the pump burning it out. i knew a guy that even with a company gas card had his work truck fuel light almost all the time, went through many fuel pumps. wasnt the brightest candle in the box for sure, lol

I agree with sucking crap off the bottom of the tank. MIne never gets below 1/4 tank. The only time I broke that was on a 2000 mile trip in which I changed when I got to about 50 - 70 miles from empty.

Odd, in the Avenger I always let the light come on. It is 11 going on 12 years old and no pump issues at all. Matter of fact I have never had a fuel system problem ever on a auto doing this.

I look at it like this. If you clear out the debris a little at a time it never gets built up?

the only way to remove the debris is to suck it through the fuel system. Running it that low is never a good idea on the long run, you have just been luck so far

i have the 34 Gal tank... mine comes on with 50-60 MTE, which is at about 1/16 of a tank. (i think that math works out)

my problem with filling up with over 1/4 tank left all the time, is that when gas sits it becomes less efficient (which is why they make stabilizer for when your engine will sit for long periods of time). I run mine til the light comes on 4 out of 5 times, with 16,000 miles in 10 months, and never a problem.

just a theory: if you continually burn almost a full tank, is there even an oportunity for gunk to build up in your tank?
