Default Is the 4.7L engine any good in a 2002 Ram 1500 quad cab?

I am looking at a 2002 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD with 110,000 miles on it. It looks great in pictures and they're only asking $9900. I think its a great deal but I'm used to seeing the 5.7 and 5.9L engines in the 1500. I used to own fords but came across this deal and was interested so I don't know much about them. Could you please help me out? Is this engine big enough, gas mileage and power wise? Thank you

Although it doesn't have near the horsepower or torque of the Hemi, and doesn't really get a lot better gas mileage either, it is still a very good V8. You never hear of any major problems with the 4.7 and they seem to take a beating and come back for more. Time is also proving they hold up well with high mileage on them.
They have a strong following among owners and it's not rare to have a 4.7 owner post that he loves his engine so much he wouldn't trade it straight up for a Hemi!!! Personally, as a Hemi owner, I think that is preposterous, but it shows you how much 4.7 owners love their trucks...

well as a person thats owned both the 4.7 and 5.7 in the 1500...hands down i'll take the Hemi any day of the week.....while i was working in the dealership, i saw quite a few problems with oil leaks on the 4.7 but other then that it seemed to be a pretty problem-free engine....the 4.7 seemed to have decent power, especially when you started to add a few mods to it and made for a pretty decent truck...fuel mileage, i've heard the 4.7 is pretty good if you get the 3.92 gears (i had 3.55 and mileage sucked)....

It depends on your driving style. I know I'd be driven insane if my truck (being a quad cab 4x4) had only the 4.7. I like power, and I love how my truck dishes it out even at the expense of gas mileage.

I prefer gas smileage anyway!

thank you for all of your help. I think I may pass on this one and test drive a few hemi's and even the f-150's again. I had the 7.3L powerstroke and loved it. Then I sold it and drove a f-150 with the 5.4L and it had no ***** at all. I'll let ya know what happens

In a qc i'm gonna say it'll be a bit underpowerd. but my pops has a 2006 ram 1500 rcsb 4x4 4.7L six speed manual. personally this truck is not underpowered at all. the thing straight hauls azz. Personally I'd take the truck my dad has over a qc hemi just because I like RCSB trucks and I always like stick shift. now if it was a qc truck that I needed I'd have to go hemi just because of the added weight. but the only thing that would make me want the qcsb would be a 2500 CTD otherwise rcsb all the way.
