New NAV (REC) not picking up satellites, Help!!!
I recently got my 2008 2500 Laramie Mega Cab 4x4. I had the dealer swap out the 6 disc to a REC NAV system as soon as I got it.
Isoonnoticed that the directional pointer wasoff by two blocks to half a mile. I changed the heading to true North and it was still always off. I took a 200 miletrip up North and it had me constantlypointed about a half mile on eitherside of the freeway. I checked the vehicle settings and GPS information in the menu andrealized that I am rarely picking any satellites.
If I do pick up a satellite, it is only for a second and then it is gone.
I assumed they mounted the antenna correctly, but I am now suspicious.
How many satellites is everyone else picking up on average while driving around?
How do I take the bezel off to check where they put the antenna?
Does a truck with a factory REC still have the NAV antenna in the dash, or is it on the roof with thesatellite radio???
Unless it is easy to get the bezel off (I don't see any screws), Iguess I will have to go back to the dealer and have them check out the antenna or theRECunit.
I sure hope someone has some advise, this sucks. Do you know how hard it was to convince myself the NAV was worth it...
Thanks for any help.

Really can't offer a solution but I've got an 05' Laramie with the factory installed Nav System and all the bells and whistles that go with it; it works very well and does NOT have any additional antenna on the roof. My guess is that your dealer screwed something up for you - but I'm very skeptical of all dealers abilities and efforts.
Good Luck!

Can you take a look at your Vehicle information/GPS info and let me know how many sats you pick up after you have been in clear view for a minute or so? Thanks Bob
the dealer installed nav comes with an ant. that is applied with a two sided tape that sticks under the dash cover. I would suspect that the ant. is stuck in the wrong place or is a bad component.
Sounds like they put the antenna in the wrong place. The normal spot is under the dash plastic but on top of anything metal. The flat side must be pointed down and cable coming out towards the rear of the vehicle.
The center bezel has two screws access from underneath just above the cup holders. Once those are removed the bezel pulls straight off. Just grab the lower corner and start pulling...just make sure the two screws are removed first!!
Then the REC comes out with 4 screws and you can trace the GPS antenna wire.

I'm an idiot. I do not have the business console, I have the one with the seat in the center.
For the life of me I cannot find the two screws that release the bezel. Do I have to take out pieces of the cup holder area? How do they come out? Does anyone have pictures of the bezel removal step by step. Again sorry for being such a dork for not finding the screws.
Thanks for the help.
Also, has anyone with a REC Nav system checked the number of sats their system is picking up.

Thank you for those pictures, however I do not have the flip down cup holder, I have the floor console. It looks like there is a panel that comes out and the screws might be behind the panel, but I do not want to go prying around and break something.
Anyone else with a floor console know how to remove the radio bezel??
I know if I take it into the dealer they will take all day to look at it and then still not put the ant in the right place...
