Default Cabin Fan Problem

I've recently lost air flow to my defrost and console settings in my 04 Ram 1500. The dealership figures the ciculation door dislodged in the duct workand fell on the blower fan, restricting the air flow to the upper duct work. They say they have to remove the dash to get to the $22 part and the entire thing is going to run me about $700. I gave them the go ahead because with the colder weather up here, they kinda have me over the barrel. The trucks only got 59500 KM on it, but is over 3 years old so the warrenty is expired.

Has anyone heard of this problem before, and am I getting screwed?

It pays several hours to replace the blend door and stuff in the dash. Your problem they will have to take out the dash and the Hvac box and dismantle it. Depending on there labor rate (by the way what is their labor rate?) that price could be close to right.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figured. I'm not sure what their labor rate is, but I will find out today when I pick up my truck. I think I may talk to the service manager to see if they can do anything seeing how close it is to the warranty and the fact that it's a defect. Have you heard of anyone else having problems with their ductwork like this?

The blend door problem is common. We get about 1 or 2 a week at our dealship. As far as killing the fan, ive not heard of that.
