Default Dancing tach

I've noticed that if I put the truck into neutral to coast to a stop (5 speed) the tach will dance from 500-1000 rpm. Is this normal on the 4.7, does it happen to others or is it a bad sign of things to come? Of all the stick cars I have owned none have done this.
Thanks.

Yep. As soon as I pop it into neutral the revs fall to 500, than they jump to 1000, then fall again, and so on, till I put her in gear. Then she levels right out with no troubles.

I don't know if it's normal, but mine's done the same thing since new ('03 4.7 5spd with 68K miles now). I think the IAC motor and TPS sensor have difficulty compensating for the sudden lack of throttle and it's taking a few tries, hence the 'bouncing' to sort everything out.

I agree. I've got an '04 4.7 5spd. and haven't had a problem with that at all. the only thing that happens is a little jump when I pop it outta gear and the load is relased from the engine.
