I have used a Pace-Edwards PowerGate power tailgate lock on all of my Dakota R/T's - works great. It costs about $75, installs inside of your tailgate so it's invisible, and ties into your power door lock lines. If your doors lock/unlock with a remote or alarm, the tailgate will automatically lock/unlock at the same time.

 

Locks are only for the Honest thief.. If they really want into your truck, They will get in...You 'll have 2 problems.. 1. Replacing the stuff they stole, aand 2. Repairing all the damage they did to get into your truck. Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna get a Tailgate lock, but only to deteer a thief, and for a piece of mind...

I have used the Pop-lock for my last 3 Rams. Its a very quick and easy install and has worked very well.
