I have a JL W3 10" in an up facing box under the pass rear seat. It is on a MTX 3001 amp. I dont know if it is the box or the amp but it doesnt sound good. It doesnt get much bass and when I turn the volume or the gain up the woofer bottoms out or begins to pop. does anyone else have this problem? I saw someone with a downfiring box which sounded awesome. would this be my answer...

 

Is your speaker still good, sounds like it might be blown.

 

yeah check the speaker but mine is the same configuration and it sounds fine.

Make sure you arent over boosting too. But burned out woofer sounds right.

 

depends on enclosure as well. IMO the stuff under the seats don't have enough room for a sub to perform very well. a w3 needs a decent sized enclosure as well. could be ur amp as well. is the sub frozen in place watch it when ur playing stuff is it moving normally??

 

the w3 requires .625 cu ft sealed per jl audio, that enclosure is .65, shouldnt be the box. How old is the subwoofer, is it broken in properly?

 

I checked the woofer and its fine. I even tried a pioneer shallow mount.

 

Check out your amp!

 

check your wires as well.. make sure nothing got screwed up!
