Default Remote Start

has anyone had remote start installed by the dodge dealer? do they replace your uni-key with a new one with an added button (this is why i want to get it done at the dealer, and not Best Buy, etc)? how much did they rape you for?

manual tranny: im assuming the truck must be started out of gear!?!

Never had one done by dealer, sorry no help there.

But i do know that you are limited to what brands you can install with the manual. they have to have special sensors, etc. When i had my diesel, i could only get like two different manufacuturers

Almost every "good" remote starter can be used with diesel trucks and manual transmissions. I used to install alarms, starters, and audio systems. On a diesel truck you need the glow plug wait to start input, and on a manual transmission you would need a neutral saftey switch. I have installed them on manual transmissions but its really not advised. The thought is that it wont start if its not in neutral, while some vehicles have the swicth already it can be tapped into, some vehicles don't and one has to be installed. If not done right it could start the vehicle in gear which could send it rolling (forget to put it in neutral, leave in gear with no e-brake). All starters have the neutral safety switch input because it is used in automatic transmissions as well. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 and I have the sentry key. I installed a "Hornet" alarm with remote start myself and had install a module to fake the truck duringthe remote start sequence that thekey was in the ignition. It is a very common thing these days because most vehicle haveimobilizercircuits. My wife has a 2004 Durango and we had the dealer put in a remote start. Her key has thelock/unlock buttons on it so they said we had two options; program the factory key/remote to remote start when both buttons are held down, install a little antenna above the rear view mirror and get a new remote just for the remotestart which would have triple the range. We went with the new remote. I dont know what it cost though we had themgive it to us or we weren't going to buy becauseit had non-heated leather seats and the wife said no way to cold in the winter. I can tell you it is easy as pie to install the kit they put in. It is a "T" harnesswhich simply plugs in between your factory wiring then to the remote start brain. Anyways sorry for the super long post.
