A couple Superchips related ?'s
I had a friend ask me this. What if the battery goes dead or something, will it keep the Superchips programing? I think it will it should be like a computer and have it stored like in a hard drive.
Do I need to return it to stock for inspections? From what I heard the hook a computer to it, to check codes and do the sniffer test. My old truck was old enough it didn't need all that.
Also I have still been running 87 tune. I like it. But I want to know if it would be ok to try performance with out a cai? It's my next mod, but right now I don't know when it will be.

you could run performance tune..... i dont know what would happen if your trucks battery would die....thats a good question.... and before you bring it in for inspection and stuff it aint gonna hurt to play it safe and take the three minutes to return it to stock!
I had a Superchips tune in my old truck. If the battery goes dead, you have no worries, it will still be there.
As for taking it in and having work done on it, you should always put it back to stock. I've heard horror stories about dealerships/ garages that put a OBDII reader on there, then tried to flash over the aftermarket tune, with a stock tune, and wipe out the computer. So I've never taken the chance. Its 10 minutes of time, all that it'll cost you.Its worth it to me, to play it safe, rather then take the risk with something like this.

I disconnected the battery to install LT Headers. Tune was still there. As far as removing the tune for inspections, it wouldn't hurt, but according to Superchips, their tunes are Carb compliant, therefore should not be a problem for passing an inspection with it installed...
I should think so, considering if it is stock and your battery goes dead, you don't have to reflash your stock program.

The PCM uses flash based memory....kind of like your I-pod or any other mp3 device. If the battery dies on your i-pod the songs will still be there...same with your PCM.
As far as a smog test...I passed a california smog test with my 2000 Z28 using a Diablosport handheld tuner. I had the rear o2's tuned out with a 93 octane tune (more aggressive timing/fuel tables)and there was no probs at all.
