im headin out of town and its a 3 hour drive, is it worth it to remove my tailgate or even let it down while on the road?
its just me and my wife nothing in the bed. thanks.
It is a myth, you get better mileage with your tailgate on and up. It creates a vortex that helps keep a majority of the air from even touching the bed.
it was on myth busters the tailgate up creates a bubble in the back of the truck and wind passes over it creating better aerodynamics orsomething like that
Yeah with the gas mileage being some a huge deal in the last 10 years vehicle manufacturers have really stepped it up in the wind tunnel. Taking the tail gate off is not supposed to do anything in newer generation trucks, but older trucks are still supposed to benefit from an open tail. The only benefit you'll get with removing yours is losing some extra lbs....
