Default Clutch question

Has anyone replaced their clutch in an 2002?. Starting to get some chatter when I depress the clutch, I check the clutch fluid and it is at the right level. Does anyone have any ideas as far as what I should look for next and or how bad is it going to suck to put in a new clutch? Thanks in advance.

puting in a clutch isnt too hard, if you have a tranny jack or one capable of holding it. just a matter of disconnecting the drive shaft and go from there. If its a 4x4 you need to keep the transfer case with the transmission, so it can be quite heavy. If you havent got a jack, stands ( a floor jack can work for the tranny, but get some help) you might consider lettting someone do it for you. If you got the equipment, just a matter of labor, lol.

Oh and you might take a trip to your local library, and look for chilton or mitchel manuals for that model and year, they can talk you through the steps you need to know(each vehicle is a bit different), what to watch for and where things may be located. When you have the tranny and clutch off, inspect the ring gear( the gear around the flywheel) for damage, and the surface of the flywheel for damage. Always replace the throw out bearing ( if it has one it will come with it some have a bushing). when installing the clutch, slowly compress it to the fly wheel with equal turns going around the fly wheel in a star pattern. You may want to use some wire and hold the clutch pedal up so no one can depress it while you are working, may sound funny, but it can destroy the slave cylinder if pressed, happens. lol good luck m8

before disconnecting the tranny, pull on the drive shaft at both ends and look for movement, might as well inspect the u joints while your there. Also look for anything out of the ordinary. Look for one of those manuals and you should be good m8. I would recommend having a friend help you, will make handling the transmission alot easier. Good luck.

good to havea nice straight draw off the engine when you pull the tranny. idk about our trucks, but some eng/trans are mounted on an angle and on some vehilclessometimes the trans mount helps out the engine mounts. in that case you would need an engine brace to hold the engine from tipping. like others have said, get the manual.be safe.

If you plan on doingthis for every change in vest in a clutch alignment tool, those cheap plastic ones don't always get it right.
