intermittentl speedometer and abs light
Vehicle:
02 Dodge1500 Quad Cab74000 miles 4.7L engine.
Problem:
My speedometer works intermittently and sometimes pegs out just sitting at an idle. I also have a check engine light and a ABS trouble light.I replaced the speed sensor on the rear differential without any change. Cruise control occasionally disconnects as well. All other gauges, lights, etc. are operating normal. I took the truck up to a local auto shop and their scanner pulled up that the speed sensor is bad after still after changing the sensor. I bought the sensor at the Dodge dealership, so its nota cheepaftermarket part. I guess the new part could be faulty. I inspected all the connectors and harnesses. I did a few google searches and found simular problems on a few dodges but they were on earlier models.[/align]
Question:
What elsecan I do to trouble shoot this problem? Any suggestions will sincerely be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Better check the wiring harness a bit better, probally some green wires. You should load test them probally find they will fail. More thanlikely not another bad sensor.
Get under the truck and check the plug on top of the rear differential for the speed sensor. I had the same problem, and it was just a little loose. Works fine now...
Just curious if there has been any fix found...Im still having the same problem and is progressively getting worse. Now the engine stalls often when coming to a stop at intersections. It stalls every time the speedometer in-op. I have to be ready to turn the key most every time when coming to a stop or even cornering at intersections. It's become very dangerous. It's hard cranking that searing wheel while cornering when that engine stalls. Ive had a couple leads to check some grounds under the dash. I plan on checking that tomorrow but other than that I have no other option then to send it to the dealer. Ive seen other posts on this problem here but see that many have resolved the issue with replacing the rear sensor (which Ive done). Ive done a search on here for engine stalling at intersections and found that all cases even though they took it to a dealer to fix had no resolution because they went able to reproduce the intermittent problem at the time of service. I'll post if the lose dash grounds turn out to be the culprit. Lets hope!

my issue was the speed sensor as well, was driving from san antonio to jacksonville fl. sucked having cruise control go out. forgot about the spedo not working, oh well have a nav system that tells you your speed.
No luck with the gound connections. Well, with the ones that I could fine anyways... Dose anyone have a schematic
that would include the speedometer circut. That would help immensely.
Thanks,
Doug

Found a post that said to replace the speed sensor on the transmition.
I did not knowtheir were dual speed sensors on this truck.
Thats where a schematic would have come in handy. I'll fallow up if
this is the fix. Meanwhile any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same issue after driving a 200+ trip and then again on the way back at the same mileage [&:]
First long trip in my 07 RAM 1500...........I was not happy! [:@]
Dealer first said there was no issue........Ya right, tell me that when your RAM freaks out at 80mph with an 18 Wheeler crawling up your butt! [:'(]
Anyhow, they did finally replace he rear wheel sensor (that was in November) I haven't been on any long trips since. But I'm actually headed on a 300 mile trip in a couple days. I will let ya all know if I have an issue (and my dealer for that matter)!
In regards to the "lag".......I'm glad others feel this as well, cause I thought it was just me?.............I told my dealer, but of course they plead ignorance
I was chalking it up to the Automatic Transmission, which this is the first I've had (man I miss me a Stick).............Is it just a symptom of the Drive by wire setup?
I really don't like it..........

Well, it turned out to be the ABS module was bad. I got a used one off ebay for $50. After installing it resolved the stalling issue with the spedo and abs break light but, the bell chime kept chiming. I had no idea but turns out I had to have the abs module flashed programed by the dealership for my truck. Now it's perfect.
