Default Muffler in backwards

When I first went under the truck for a closer inspection than I had time for at the dealer I noted that my muffler is non-OEM and it's in there freaking backwards. The inlet arrow points downstream.

I guess the previous owner couldn't read English when they put it in.

I'll have to get it fixed eventually but could it be causing any problems?

What Brand / Type muffler is it ? Though that would annoy the hell outta me, some types are "unidirectional", i.e., doesn't matter which way you put them in...

No clue. Just some round can type.

If it's multi-directional I doubt they would have bothered to stamp the arrow and the word Inlet into the body.

It doesn't sound wierd or anything.

It will matter, this could create strange ways the air is circulated. However, it is a non chambered, straight through round muffler, you should be fine until it gets fixed. You SHOULD fix it though. Check out aeroturbine's andMagnaflows websites, they will have what the insides of their round straight through mufflers look like and you can see that they are directional. If you had a flowmaster or another type of chambered muffler it would matter MUCH more. At most you are probably suffering a minimal mileage decrease as well with power, probably isn't the optimum sound either.

Could you post a picture of the muffler for us?

I agree with you 100% Scott, if it didn't matter to the design of the muffler, they would not have bothered to put an arrow on it. Fix it as soon as possible...

yea if they took the time to stamp it in there its for a reason... i would replace it asap... its prolly making the exhaust flow a little funky...

I plan to this weekend. I just haven't been down in the garage with the camera lately.

Well, I guess I was half asleep when I looked at it before. The muffler is OEM and in correctly.

I saw the word "Inlet" down at the tail end and thought I saw the arrow pointing at the rear of the truck. It's pointing to the front instead. It even has the Chrysler star on it.
