Anyone have a 4.7 w/a 5-speed STICK???
Sorry Stickshiftrule, I was referring to drtelco when I was talking about the towing capabilities of a 4.7. I have an auto, I have drag raced a friend of mine who has a Hemi with the 20's on it and the 3.92 gears. I was quicker although he pulled away from me at about 60-65 mph. I dont have any pause in my excelleration. I wouldn't say that it is a punchy type of excelleration. It is real smooth all the way through. I agree that a stick would be nice. I think that the CAI and TBS helped to make it quicker and it definately helped with towing.
Thank-you, grayghost!
Too bad about the lack of "punchy-ness" though, that's what I like. But with a stick it can be kept under control. I will still keep an eye out for a ram like this. If I see one I will test it out, but at least now I know what to expect. Probably not going to be what I want though. Thank-you to all who responded.
BTW- greyghost, from what I have learned, the CAI is good and the TBS is not.
Not that it's bad, but I think (IMHO) that your gains are from you CAI.

I also test drove a single cab, short bed, w/ the 5 speed before purchasing my truck, the difference between acceleration is minimal. Specially if you include good upgrades. I'm running 17" rims on mine.
Thanks Mattes_4.7
I recently got to test-drive a (used) 4.7 4x4 stick (r-cab s/b)(a real stripper)(vinyle seats and floor)(I liked it).
But, it was crappy (wet roads) and I couldn't get on it like I wanted to. But it did have a nice pull to it in 2nd gear.
But it wasn't quikker than my ranger. It had the 3.55's and smaller tires. Just wasn't quite "it" for me, but did let me sample the drivetrain.
Short of "it" showing up on a lot (and me seeing it)(and being impressed with it) I think I'll be keeping my ranger.
My truck is paid for and only has 23k miles. And to be honest, it's damn quik for a loaded 4x4![sm=badbadbad.gif]
I did go back later to try driving it again when it was dryer out. It was gone.
Too bad, would have been interesting.
They talked me into trying out a 4x4 Rumble Bee, even though I said no automatics. But I was like "okay" at least I'll know what all the fuss is about with 1/2 ton hemi's (I've tested three 2500's). Well I know why you guys pull that wire that cuts the power back on shifts. I will admit that from a start, or rolling in 1st that it takes off hella fast, but once 1st winds out BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! I tried the tow/haul mode, didn't help much. For normal driving it was good though, better than the 5.4 3V triton in the F-150. But for perfomance, well I had HIGH expectations due to what all the hemi owners were saying. I took a long test drive and tried several times to get the kind of acceleration out of it that would put a smile on my face. But evertime it shifted (under WOT) I was very disapointed. Now I'm not saying the truck wasn't fast, I am saying that once it shifts, that "pull" just isn't there, and when that happens you get passed by when you should be kicking a$$.
Grey ghost was right, 4.7's damn good for the displacement they have.
Honestly, what happened (to the hemi) after 2003???????????? I tested 2 (1 auto, 1 stick)(3/4 ton) and even the auto pulled hard in 2nd (not as good in 3rd) but the stick was awesome! And both were really LOUD! Have driven a hemi stick (2500) and this "bee" and they are no where near as loud (or responsive).
Pretty sad when my lil' 4.0 can bang off a harder shift than a hemi. I'm not trying to flame here, but my truck gives a good kick when shifted hard, knocks you back a bit. That 4.7 I tested kicked prety good in 2nd too.[sm=smiley20.gif]

I have a 2000 Dakota4.7L 5 spd w/3.90 posi. I got it after I totatled my 98 Dakota Sport 3.9L w/5 spd. I haven't owned a vehicle without a stick yet and don't plan on it. I don't know much about the full-size trucks. I did test drivea Hemi4x4, but hated the slow response. It's pretty quick becauseof power to weight ratio. More plans and upgrades when I get out of Air Force.
I've got an '03 4.7 4x4 Quad cab, 3.92s with a stick. Very happy with it. Typical truck shifting though. If you plan on racing anyone, you'll need a shift kit. That is one long throw.
I had a 2000 Dodge Dakota Reg. Cab short box 4x4 with 4.7l and 5 speed. I think it had 3.55s. That was a fast truck but without a l/s it sucked. I also burnt the clutcha couple of times...
I currently have a 2005 Dodge Ram Reg. cab short box4x2 with 4.7l and 6 spd (getrag). It has 3.92s with l/s. It moves along pretty well. I get a kick outa the die hard hemi guys. My little 4.7l can keep right up with most. I also can pull my ****** CJ-2A around so thats all I really need. One problem I am having is that due to being a contractor (constantly on rough jobsites) my front coil springs have sagged and I am beating the crap out of my bump stops. Anyone know of stiffer coils that I can swap in?
