RE: Radar Detector? best place to wire it up???
I have a Passport, thant takes its power from an Rj cable (phone cord). I ran new cord from the detector mounted above the mirror, through the headliner, down the pillar, under the dorr sill, under my seat and into the center console, where i connected it to its stock power cord, and pluged it into the 12v source in the center console. Works great, especially since i dont always use it, just unplug it and stash. no cords floating around my dash, etc.

In my '03 there's a four-wire harness under the steering wheel, behind the knee bolster. In it is a lime green wire with a black stripe. It's switched hot. Your '08 may not have the sameharness, but it probably does. Tie into that and a ground and run up the driver's side a-pillar to the overhead console. Make sure you fuse it according to the detector's requirements (usually 2A). You can also use the green/black to run relays for lights, fans, etc.
