Now that it is snowing, i am really tired of the ol 1 wheel peel. 
I am no stranger to things automotive, and consider myself pretty handy. I have a good friend, who is darn good. gets paid to do motor, tranny swaps, build motors etc on the side, and is an engineer full time. All the tools, big shop etc.
Would installing the true trac be a good job to do myslelf (aka, watch him, learn somethings). Or is it tricky, or worth having a shop do it for some kind of warranty?
I have helped him do gears before, i would imagine this would be easier? but i have no idea.
Also, I tow some fairly heavy trailers, well, up to 7000#'s. is this an issue, would an auburn or detroit be better for this type of use, or no matter.

I'm not that accomplished to take on a rearend swap. I've seen those shows on the Speed Channel that indicate it's a very meticulous, exacting task. I'm not sure who I'd take mine to around here to have the work done (not that I plan to at the moment). I'm sure there is someone who is knowledgeble, just don't know who.

Any true track (positrack, Anti-slip, limited slip) diff will suite your purpose. you do NOT want any lockers. That is for offroading use. Also you have a 1500, and it is only rated to 6700#. Just a warning. But for your purposes you just need to install an LSD. The install is easy if you know what your doing. There is not much to a diff.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(GVWR)=6700
Payload=1358
Curb Weight=5342
Curb WeightFront/Rear=3084/2258
GAWRFront/Rear=3700/3900
