hey guys, im a 2nd gen guy and im selling my 95 and looking at a 2002 5.9 .. i was just wondering how the power is and torque.. i heard alot of things like its a dog of an engine but i just want real reviews from people who own the truck.. (a chevy guy told me that) the truck is extremly nice 50000 miles and they only want 14,000 for it its gorgeous in mint condition thanks alot fellas
Look for an '03 or newer with a Hemi in it, like 35% more horsepower and 20% better fuel economy. That price on the '02 is nothing to write home about, a buddy of mine down here just got an '05 Hemi QC 4x4 for $13,800. Absloute mint condition with 41k miles on it. Dealer had it listed in the paper for $15,995 and he got the sales manager to go down just over $2000.
There is also currently an '05 4x2 Hemi QC with 27k miles on it for $11,995, an '05 Hemi QC Laramie 4x4 with 47k on it for $16,995 and an '03 Hemi QC 4x4 with 67k miles on it for $11,995 currently on their lot.
He emailed me picks of his before he cut his deal to ask my opinion:

I'm from the Hudson Valley in NY, about an hour from the city.
Unfortunatly for you, I currently live in central Fl. and these are at a local dealer here. But those deals are about average from what I've seen at all the dealers in the area.
And seriously, I had a '98 RC 4x4 5.9 Magnum, it isn't even in the same ballpark as my current Hemi. So much more power with the Hemi and I was lucky to see over 10 mpg with 35" tires on that '98 4x4. I get mid 13's around town and close to 16 on the highway with 35's on the Hemi...

I agree with Hammer, go for one with the Hemi in it if your set on a gasser. While I'm reminiscant with the old LA/ Magnum motors, especially the 318 and 360, and in the right hands those motors can make serious HP, the Hemi out of the box is in a totally different ballpark and has pretty strong aftermarket support. They do also make 'em with the 4.7L as well, and there are guys here that enjoy their trucks with that setup. However, same deal, out of the box (i.e. stock) it's not even in the same ballpark as the Hemi power wise. Now if you plan on modifying it allot, and have the dough, the CTD is a freakin' monster and without allot of money makes insane power, but you'll pay more upfront for it....I guess it's all up to what you want
Good luck !
Good luck !

I like my 5.9. Drove a few hemis too. But the 5.9 reg cab had alot of power. I liked it too because everyone has the 4 door hemi. Wanted to be a little different. But ive had mine 3 weeks now. And so far im glad i chose it. [/align]

Bumping that to 300 miles gives me8 trucks, only1 of those with less than 50K miles on it. Not a Hemi.
It's nuts.
With the 2002 with 5.9V8
you don't get the 8-12% better MPG with the 5.7V8
but you do get the worse Aerodynamics of the 2002 redesign
so you are going to take a 'double hit' on worse fuel economy
at 60-79 mph highway speeds.
City driving MPG won't be much different.
Car & Driver magazine did a long term test on a 2002 with a 5.9V8:

$14,000 for that model used,
even with relatively low miles
seems about $5000 too high to me.
You can read about the potential 'built in' problems you might face
with that 2002 year's model "Technical Service Bulletins" at:
