Default clay bar

Do you guys think clay bar will remove color scratches on top of the paint. For instance i have some weird red line on my door along with white. Also how about small very thin scratches from using a old towl to dry the truck off. I have never used clay bar and I am wondering what it does.

The paint should come off easy with either a clay bar, polishing compound or a cleaner wax. You could try it on the scratches also and if it doesn't work for you then use a polishing machine.

We use a clay bar on all our limos but not with water but with spray wax, The trick is to keep the bar wet when working with it. It will get out alot of oxidation from the paint.

clay bars really arn't meant for removing scratches. They are for removing all the dirt and grime that gets on paint that you can't get off with just soap and a sponge. the color scratches you speak of do you mean like it's paint that is like on ur actual factory paint. like ur truck is black or w/e and there's red and white on it. then yea the clay bar will take that out but removing scratches requires a polish. the type of polish you need depends on how bad the scratch is.

I agree. Also depeds on how deep the scratch is.I have used just rubbing compound on my truck for light scratches.Gets em off quick.

You could try a clay bar first abarmby and see how it works. I always start with the least aggressive procedure and gradually move up if it doesn't work. Clay bar would be first then some kind of rubbing compound then machine. You can definitely remove those swirl marks and get a perfect finish, how deep they are will determine how much work you have to do.

Ben is correct. Clay bars remove deposits on the paint surface. When you feel bumps, etc when you slide your hand across the paint, that is what they remove. They won't remove scratches, swirls, etc, they need polish. The worse the scratch or swirl, the more abrasive polish you will need.

Most parts stores carry clay bars packaged with quick detail spray. When using a clay bars, make sure to keep the surface well lubricated with either the detail spray or slightly soapy water.
