Default 2008 TPS

I just bought a 2008 Ram 2500 w/hemi 6 spd. This truck has the TPS system to check tire pressure. On the dash , they is a button that says "light load". Can you set your personal tire pressure settings or just how do you set the darn thing. Right now I have 60 lbs in each tire and the warning chimes twice.

Well I would think 60 lbs of pressure in each tire is too high. When tires get hot, the pressure increases and blowouts can happen. What is the max psi your tiresare rated for? I think increasing tire pressure can help with fuel economy a little bit but too much might cause your tires to wear faster.

I dont have the TPS system so I dont know anyting about that and drive a 1500 running 35 lbs of air in each tire. Check the manual for recommended tire pressures or the sticker on your drivers door.

I also have an 08 Ram and I have gone through this. What it take is if you look on the driver side door jam there is a tire presure for light load (both front and back tires) and a tire presure for heay load (both front and back tires). If you are running 60 psi than you may need to switch to the heavy load setting so the alarm dosent go off.

I'm running 35's on my ram and I use the light load since I'm not hauling much right now and it give a great ride, you might try it and see how it works for you.

So the short of the long is if you aren't running the same presure that is on the drivers door the sensors are going to give you the warning light and chimes. If you don't like it adjust tire presure to the low range or set the load sensor buttonto heavy load. This should turn the warning light and chimes off.

Good luck
B

I do have the system on. when on light load the pressure should be set as this (no cargo in bed) 60 front and 45 rear, with cargo in bed 60 front and 70 rear. Note that these are for a 2500 ram... Not sure for a 1500

Look on the driver door and it will tell you the right psi under both circumstances. Mine was also set to 60/60 and the damn light and sound always came on. when I followed the sticker on the door it fixed that problem. But now with my aftermarket wheels with no sensor's in the wheels I removed the damn ligth in the cluster, still get the sound once in a while but I can deal with it.

So does that mean you are running 80 lbs in the rear?

well i'm assuming your truck is an HD...the light load is basically for when you don't have anything in the bed or towing anything...we have a 08 2500 HD here at work and the LED on it is always on, if you turn it off then the TPM light comes on....when u have a heavy load turn that button off and put air in the rear tires till the light goes out

On our work truck, we run heavy laods at 40 psi. 60 seems like a ton of air. are you wearing out your centers?

I don't think so. The tires have a max 80lbs. And yes , it is a 2500 HD Hemi 6 spd
