Default 7 pin connector questions

So, what does the 7 pin connector in the tow package get me?

I know one of the 7 pins is for trailer brakes. Is it ready to control those as-is or would a brake controller need to be added?

I think the other two pins are 12V hot, right? Are they ready to go in the trailer tow package?

I only have experience with the 4 pin systems but I might be shopping RVs eventually (3+ years away though gotta pay off the truck first) and want to make sure I fully understand. I searched the forum but couldn't really get a clear picture.

You shoudl get a brake controller for an RV. Cost you about 100 for a good one like a prodigy. They are easy to install.

Your others are hot for the other accesories on the trailer. ousidelights/work lights/charge battery etc. they are good to go.

Well, if it does, it will be all the brakes, or none of the brakes. Someone else will have to give you specifics. I am not 100% on if it works or not.

you will not have trailer brakes w/o the controller. the 3 extra wires are- one controls the brakes, one is a constant 12V to run accesories and i think the 3rd is left open for future use but i could be wrong. you really don't need to worry about what they all do, just plug it in and go.

For the trailer brakes to work, you will have to add a trailer brake controller. Very simple connections. 4 wires to connect, then it plugs in under the dash...

Thanks for the responses. Won't have to worry about it for awhile but good to know.
