When cleaning the throttle body, I've seen neumerous posts on different forums saying that brake cleaner should be used and sparingly at that.
It won't leave any nasty deposits which can attract dirt and grime leading to those nasty sticky deposits you have just cleaned.
Plus, remove the whole throttle body and clean in back of it and down as far as you can into the intake throat.
Remember...........don't drop anything down there! It WILL be expensive if you do.
It's only a few bolts and the removal of the electrical connector actuating the throttle body blade.
Once removed, you can clean it at your comfort and leisure warm inside your garage etc.

Another BIG thing NOT to do, is try and move the throttle body blade whilst hooked up to the electrics.
This WILL screw the actuator up and a new one is VERY expensive.
Go slowly, carefully and use that brake cleaner sparingly on a clean rag. Do not let it contact to any great degree, any of the more sensitive actuator parts etc.
Hope this helps bud?
Al.

Use throttle body cleaner. What's a little $3 worth of insurance that you won't mess up something important?

My truck gets 9.8 mpg in town, although I admit I'm no lightweight on the gas pedal. However, it doesn't improve past 12 or so on the highway with the cruise set at 70. I'm at 54k miles so I'm going to do the plugs asap. Already cleaned the TB and installed an intake so at least I'm getting good gas smileage [8D]

Thanks for the help guys, Now I just have to find an evening I have free and can check all this stuff out.

ORIGINAL: L and R Two

Along with what everyone is asking for and advice being given. I think knowing what is all done to the truck might be a factor. Anything causing a huge weight increase, tire size, etc. Need some more history to break down...
The truck is totally stock, no lift or larger tires, with the exception of a flowmaster exhaust which I figured would only help if anything. No huge weight increases or anything out of the normal or different than stock.

I get about 14.5 city and around 17.1 highway and my foot is pretty damn heavy on the peddal, Just can resist it and I'm sure alot of you guys can relate. In anycase go through and do everything everyone else has mentioned, make sure all of your fluids are clean/up to date on all services. You'd be surprised what a little tlc will do for mileage, if you can keep your foot out of it

a big thing too that affects gas mileage is the air temp outside. cold hot rich and lean. My cousin has a 06 2500 4bi and he is gentle as can be, only 9000 miles on it, getting just over 8. I have mine supercharged and then some and getting 12. 4x4 is a killer on gas mileage too.

throttle body is easy to clean, take off the tube from the air box, and spray throttle body cleaner in it....
Ouch! I read that even Chrysler says NOT to use TB cleaner.

I believe you are correct, if I remember the TSB said to use brake cleaner. The two times I've cleaned mine I used carb cleaner with no problems...

Ok, for you guys who are using carb cleaner...where exactly are you spraying it in? Also, for anyone using SeaFoam...any positive/negative effects? I know there's another thread where someone was having low end "bogging down" issues, but resolved it with cleaning the TB. Also, SeaFoam says to use the Brake Booster Line as a source of suction for bringing in the liquid...being as I've only had my Dodge for about two weeks, I have no idea where this is on my new truck. It's an '04 Hemi. Thanks for the help. (BTW, pics help on identifying BBL...)
