What Programmer?!?!?HELP!!!
I want to get a programmer
, but don't know what one to go with[:@]. i've been told to wait till the Superchips Cortex comes out for dodge with the warrenty and ability to go to another dodge truck gas or diesel with out buying a new one. Then i've been looking at the Bully dog one and the gains that thay claim are VERY good, but i heard that the dealer can tell if you've been in there with that programmer so warrenty is basically void. Then edge came out with one but they say it's only for a 2007 hemi? Not sure if it will work with my 2006 hemi, ididn't think there was that much of a difference. Then i've heard that the Hypertech one isn't very good, the actual gains are not what they say. Then i was thinking about a jet chip but the shop here in town said that most of them acutally loose power on the dyno.and i'm sure there's others out there but haven't heard much about them. So i'm so confused to which one to go with? please let me know which one and why and if people have had problems or what not with them. thanks

I got tired of waiting for DiabloSport to pull their head's out. I went with a Superchips Flashpaq. I have no complaints. If you search this topic, you'll find that's what most are running. I've heard that Edge makes a good one, too.
I've seen results on the dyno at a local performance shop. Currently the Superchips is the best on the market. Bully is second, but a fairly distant second. Hypertech is fair at best. The Jet does indeed lose both performance and mpg's on the Hemi.
As far as Diablo goes, it may be a long time before you see it, if ever. Rumor has it that the product was blowing up Hemi Trucks when they beta tested it. So the release was delayed. They have recently come out with an LX version (cars with the hemi) that has on quite a few occasions blown up engines. Lots of piston/head damage cases (kinda makes me believe the DR rumor). I understand there are people suing. Diablo does not dispute that there has been engine damage caused by their tuner, but they contend that people adjusted settings out of spec or used them on "modified vehicles". My personal opinion is that they are giving the end user too much control if this can happen. Diablo has since released a warning that the product IS NOT INTENDED for vehicles modified from stock. WTF? Why get one then?
If you are not in a big hurry, I'm hearing really good things about the SCT tuner. They are currently doing great things with the 5.2, 5.9 and early 4.7 engines, good enough that I can see myself ebay'ing my Superchips when the SCT is out and proven. SCT is also fully commited to custom tunes, something that Superchips promised when I bought mine, but has since done an about face on. Custom tunes are essential for peak performance with aftermarket mods like CAI, Headers, CAM, etc. So you can see why I am anxious for the SCT to be released.

Your 2 best choices are going to be either the Bully Dog or the superchips. Both have the same tuning options and both give you similiar numbers for gains. Superchips is slightly better on the gains, but unless you race the truck and above 4000 rpms often, you won;t notice it that much.
The plus for the SC tuner is that it is much faster that the Bully Dog when hooked up to the truck. The bully dog takes forever to load the tunes.
The plus for the bully dog is that it is much easier to receive and perform updates from your computer. And you can usually find a Bully Dog tuner around $100 cheaper than a SC tuner when buying new.
And yes I have had both tuners and currently running the Bully Dog...

question about the bully dog. superchip says that they can return you computer to stock condition so that it cant be detected. does bully dog make that claim as well?

Not only should you return it to stock before taking it in for service, but the programmer has to upload the stock tune back to the truck before you can update it.

Yes it can.

excellent. i know it's not a sure thing and that i am taking a risk with my warranty, but that at least makes me feel a bit better.
Easy boys...... According to the head mechanic AND the service manager at my local Chrysler/Jeep dealership it is a load of BS, they cannot tell that a "tune" was on your PCM if you reset it to stock. The only "evidence" that they can see, is a time & date stamp on when the PCM was flashed. So they can kinda put 2+2 together if you flash it back to stock like an hour before you took it in, but they CANNOT prove what it was flashed from.
My service manager told me that I can leave it "tunned" when I bring it in, as long as I tell them to put on the work order for what's being done that it cannot be flashed without contacting me.
No warranty issues as far as he's concerned, as far as having a Superchips goes. He does say that they do have an issue with Diablo's though on the vehicles it supports (not us yet) because you can do serious damage with end user controllable settings. They deem the SC as a "safe" mod because all you have is CARB approved "canned" tunes.
Keep in mind, this is just how my local dealer's service dept. views this issue, I'm not saying ALL Chrysler dealerships would be OK seeing you have a tuner installed on your PCM!!!
