i noticed on my shifter today whaen you press the button you got into haul mode then again to shut off o/d. maybe im a retard but i thought was the same thing my 99 just had o/d off which is what i used when hauling my sleds

 

In haul mode it shifts into the 4th gear overdrive instead of 5th. And with the o/d off it keeps you out ofboth 4th and 5th overdrive gears.

 

Also tow/haul rearranges the tranny gear ratios giveing you a shorter gears for more torque. O/D off just keeps you out O/D and into the "drive gears" O/D allows the the rear end and eggine to rotate at different speeds which gives you the better mpg (in theory).

 

my question is o/d off and tow/haul the same thing. becuase mine only has o/d off.

No, o/d off and tow/haul are not the same thing, as said before

Tow/Haul changes shift points/keeps you out of 5th
O/D off gets rid of all you o/d gears

so that means my truck doesn't have tow mode

 

You are correct. If it just turns O/D off you do not have Tow/Haul.

 

so if you are going down the highway with a trailer on do you still want to have it the the tow/haul mode ? I did that when i first got my truck and it really did not seem to like it . I went through a ton of gas and the revs stayed high. i put it in regular mode and everything was fine . it felt like you would want to use that mode when doing a lot of hills so the tranny is not shifting in and out of overdrive all the time .

On a flat highway no. just leave it in regular drive mode, unless it starts hunting for gears, then turn on tow/haul, or if you're hauling in the city constanly stop and go, and heading up and down mountains. Otherwise you shouldn't need it on flat or mild rolling land.
