Default Stant 180 14168

I picked up my Stant #14168 today at Advance Auto Parts. It says on the box that it is 180 degree, but nowhere on the box or thermostat itself does it say 63mm. It looks huge to me, so I assume it's the right one. I plan on doing the swap within the next 2 weeks when I'm at my dads and have a driveway to do it in. I know this thermostat will make the truck run cooler, but after reading Pappy's writeup on this mod, and reading a few posted links, I'm really curious as to how much this helps performance? I read on one of his links that on a 300C that made an extra 16 hp or something like that. I do not expect numbers near that, but realistically, what can I expect? Is there really any noticable difference in how drives besides the temp. guage reading lower? Thanks for all your help guys...I'm addicted to this site, and I know I could have searched more about this, but I like making new posts Oh yeah, by buying the Stant 14168, did I make the right choice, or is there better...or are they all about the same?

You will get somewhere around 0-1 HP. It will not make a big difference. Thermostat, TStat, Stat, but not stant.

won't make much "feelable" difference performance wise....granted it does help because the cooler you can keep an engine, the longer it's gonna last....but don't expect to get 10HP out of it

Thanks hemiyellow...ohhhhhhhhh 94rt10ohio thought I was calling it a stant, like a thermostant...STANT is the brand name...I think that's what he meant??? I dunno...I'm not that retarded....but anyway, yes I don't expect much from it, but how does it help a Chrysler 300C so much and not our trucks? or was that just bs?

Running cooler could lead to a richer mixture, which would help prevent lean conditions with longtubes and programmers. [/align]

The stant is fine, a lot of guyshave it, mine is the Jet, costs more, but I like that it's all stainless and has a lifetime warranty. Whoever says a 300C is getting that kind of gains is all wet! It'll richen your mixture a little and that might get you one HP. Anything to keep that engine a little coolershould help it over the long haul. The richer mix might cost you a mpg or so on the fuel economy end. I disagree with Pappy on the fact that I don't think it's a good mod for everyone. If you have NO other mods, I think you'll be a bit too rich. I have mine because I have a SC tuner and long tube headers, not to mention CAI and cat back exhaust, as a result I was running a good bit lean, the 180 t-stat brought me back within spec.
Now, anything that increases air input/flow would tend to lean you out a little. So, if you had maybe a K&N drop in and cat back exhaust, the 180 stat would be a good combo. So I would at least pick up the K&N and install it in place of your paper filter when you put in the stat.

I installed a JET. It was easy. Put it in "BEFORE" getting my programmer. I saw a little bit of MPG loss, right off the bat. Not much of a difference performance-wise. Got the MPG's back after programmer install. I am not concerned about the lack of performance. Cooler is better, ALWAYS. Iknow it will help reduce wear &tear, from higher engine temps. Maybe someone has seen a performance gain. Not everyone does the same mods, though. So a different combination of mods, driving style, and upkeep make the differences there, I would assume.
