P0357 white smoke rough idle
I am lost and hope someone can help! I have a 03 Ram 1500 with a 4.7 turned 75,000 miles today. I had an EVAP code and a missfire code so I changed the plugs and also found a cracked hose on my EVAP canister. After the plug change the rough idle got worse!!I also replaced thehose. I'm not pulling an EVAP code anymore, but I still have the rough idle problem and white smoke out of the tailpipe. When I'm driving it runs great, but when i slow to stop it wants to stall(sometimes does). It idles low and smells like gas a little out the pipe. I also replaced 2 ignition coils that i thought were bad. when I pulled them, they did smell like gas. Please help me!! Thanks!
Sounds like you might not have gotten your ignition hooked up tight. Close the garage doors, turn out the lights and look for spark leaks in the dark.
White smoke might signify antifreeze in the combustion chamber normally but I don't think that's it, sometimes excess fuel will give similar smoke. I'm curious why your coils smelled like gas... You mean the plugs at the supposed bad coils smelled like gas I assume?
Try re-attaching each coil to it's plug.

Yeah, I was going to say that it sounds like a blown head gasket to me..........but it would do it all of the time, not just when it is at idle. Just to be on the safe side check your radiator level.
I don't think it's a blown head gasket b/c the engine has never over heated. I only drive about 7 miles to work. Never hurts to look though so I'll check it out. The smoke seems to dissipate after a warming up for about 15-20 mins. Thanks for the advise and I'll check it out!
Been reading some other posts and noticed that Bosch plugs don't work in a Dodge very well....just so happens that is what i put in mine right before my problems began!! Going to get the changed in a few!
this is problably not your problem, but mine was ideling rough, and had white smoke for about the first 5 or ten min that i started it up, and it turns out that i was buying waterd down gas, i changed places where i got it from ,and it fixed everything. i dont think its your probem but it still couldnt hurt to try it

changed the plugs and no better. i checked the oil and nothing in it. however; my radiaor was low on water. (very low) if it is the head gaset, where could it go? also, why does it run great on the highway, but die when i go to stop. one change is that itis running ok in park now, but not in gear. could it be a sensor?
